Life + Times has partnered up with BBC Radio 1 DJ and music connoisseur Annie Mac.  Every month Annie will work her magic on an exclusive mix for Life + Times that will feature a selection of her favorite new tracks.

In October, Annie released her Annie Mac Presents 2013 for the first time to the US. Since 2009, the AMP (Annie Mac Presents) imprint has introduced the world to fresh music from a variety of both established and budding artists. In support of the latest compilation, Annie is currently mid-way through a European tour with Duke Dumont, MNEK, Cyril Hahn and Lulu James.  AMP will make its way to the States for SXSW and WMC (Winter Music Conference) Miami in 2014.  Much like Annie’s live shows, this debut exclusive mix features some of the most exciting artists making electronic music right now. Here is the official track list:

Skream & Benga's 2014 FUTURE STARS

A Run-DMC track I had never heard!? “Impossible!” I thought, when I saw a late-night post on Facebook from my homie Dezi aka DJ Psycho from Detroit Techno Militia. I clicked on it right away, and within seconds messaged Dezi to see if he had a recording of it he could shoot my way. He is a vinyl collector on a level that new school “vinyl purists” can only idolize, so I can only assume the file he sent me back some hours later was a recording, direct from his crates. I needed to make up for lost time with this jam, consisting solely of a minimal drum machine groove and the kings of rock bugging out with an echo effect overtop like kids who had too much time in the studio on their hands, and maybe too many 40s that evening. So I got right down to edit mode. 

The obscure track, “Uptempo” appeared only on a “specially priced” EP, in 1987, called “It’s Tricky”, featuring the song of the same name that was a major single from the “Raising Hell” album the year before, but not on the “It’s Tricky” single, which featured “Proud To Be Black” as the b-side. So I imagine “Uptempo” started it’s life in the value bins and K-Mart and didn’t go much further, but damn, it is raw as hell b-boy music, strictly for bugging’ out to. 

Much respect to Run, DMC and Jam Master Jay (RIP) for creating the soundtrack to much of my youth, and to Dezi for inspiring me to keep digging for new sounds always.
