Paul Deep continues developing his repertoire and returns to the label with 'Mind Destructor'.

Its been a busy few years for the Argentinian artist since his last appearance in 2020. Signings to The Soundgarden, Mango Alley and Tale&Tone have kept his diverse fanbase, including high profile stars such as Eelke Kleijn and Maceo Plex, updated. 

Opening with the tough chunky groove of 'Mind Destructor', were quickly up to speed. Content to find its place on the floor and slowing intensify, the track grows organically over the first half with subtle synth lines powering forward. In the break, they reach fever pitch before the beat drops and room erupts, arms aloft. 

'Amenotejikara' takes a deeper, more melodic path. Airy atmospheres and percussive energy lead the way as synths creep into earshot adding tension. The ebb and flow of the arps gives palpable release to the tension. A true progressive earworm.  

Rounding out the EP, 'Indigo' continues the subtle carnival flavours with a groovy bongo-led closer. A more pronounced bassline from the drop, gritty saw-toothed edginess bites in the low end as one-shots and an eerie vocal provides high frequency ear candy.

Ending the year in style, Meanwhile celebrates its 39th release with label head-honchos, GMJ and Matter showcasing a 3-track epic in "EXT 135 / Elemental / Time to Space".

Artists who have risen rapidly to secure permanent seats at underground dance's top table, GMJ and Matter excel within the DJ and production arenas. Responsible for some of the most intelligent and atmospheric progressive house music the industry has seen and an ironclad provenance behind them, the Melbourne based duo have been leading lights in their hometown and beyond for more than 15 years. Hugely respected artists in their own rights with over 500 individual production credits each, a century has come within their collaborative partnership.

As such, original gems have included several original EPs for Proton Music, with additional work finding its way onto the likes of Anjunadeep, onedotsixtwo and Balance Music. However, it is on Meanwhile where the Australian duo have joined forces with such style and grace. From 2020's "Lost on Origin", "Gauntlet" and "Eldarin" to 2021's "The Path /Perfect Storm", plus remixes for Alex O'Rion, Rich Curtis and Roger Martinez, GMJ and Matter have been at the vanguard of modern progressive house as they now return for another stellar outing.

"EXT 135" is a fizzing powerhouse of hi-hat percussion and white-noise fills as immaculately filtered melodies emerge from the rhythmic melange alongside a chorus of expertly woven pads. A gentle vocal cut adds a melancholy vibe as the track pauses for breath at the breakdown before blossoming once more into the second half with ease and trademark aplomb.

Continuing the rich rhythmic foundation of its predecessor, "Elemental" develops a stunning rolling cadence and swung percussion that provides the perfect platform for a warm blanket of textured pads and pulsating melodies to emerge. Redolent in delays and effects, a reverse-reverb vocal chant creates tension and variation while a simple motif holds fort in the background, helping rhythm and melody gel across the track's duration.

The final track sees "Time To Space" propelled forwards with cavernous bass groove, ticking percussion and laser beam effects. Evolving elegantly, a sustained pad creates an Underworld-esque backdrop from which a chunky synth motif filters into sonic range before being juxtaposed by a glassy counterpoint phrase. Building through the breakdown, the tracks hits its stride once more in the latter stages with an expansive soundstage and metronomic groove.

Illustrating unrivalled talent and craftsmanship, GMJ and Matter once again conquer the progressive house landscape with "EXT135 / Elemental / Time To Space".

In mid-2022, GMJ delivered another 24-carat release in the shape of his "Empty to Fill" musical triptych. Returning to the EP, a pair of new remixes provide a fresh perspective from an Australian legend and rising Russian star.

Jamie Stevens has been a regular contributor to the Meanwhile catalogue. An award-winning ARIA artist with a slew of releases on Bedrock, Lost & Found and Selador amongst others, 400 production credits tell their own story of the Melbourne resident's success. June 2022's "Circles" EP showcased Stevens' talent on Meanwhile with three inimitable original tracks, while a single remix of Roger Martinez's "Cosmic Drum" in late-2020 is now followed by a sparkling interpretation of "Empty to Fill". Replete with bouncing bass groove and body-shaking percussion, the vocal sample that featured in the original makes an intermittent return with sinister, pitched down voicing. Evolving easily, familiar melodic elements make their play alongside a wealth of new production material that reveals itself further towards the mid-point breakdown. Full of dancefloor sensibility, the track explodes into life in the second half in a hypnotising and mesmerising collage of rhythmic prowess.

Another familiar artist to the Meanwhile faithful, Konstantin Kuranakov has carved out a sizeable reputation with his Jiminy Hop pseudonym. Already finding success with releases on the likes of Plaisirs Sonores Records, Juicebox Music and WARPP, March 2022's "Johlin" and September's "Levera / Agmoli" perfectly illustrated the Russian star's production credentials with five immaculately sculpted original pieces of music. Now returning with a debut remix on GMJ & Matter's imprint, the Jiminy Hop interpretation is a masterful, up-tempo reworking of "Stage Flight" that rises and falls with poise and grace. Delicate new melodies soar on the sonic breeze as they cascade gently across the landscape in arpeggiated patterns. Counterpoint melodies entwine through each other in interwoven patterns with a dense atmosphere in plentiful supply through shimmering delays and reverb tails. A copious blend of white-noise risers and crashing waves add a pulsating touch as the Jiminy Hop remix ignites with its club-friendly denouement in the second half.

Taking GMJ's music in imaginative new directions, Jamie Stevens and Jiminy Hop are full of poise and passion through their "Empty to Fill /Stage Flight Remixes".

Born and raised in Belarus but now based in Poland, Kostya Outta first emerged over a decade ago. A continued evolution in sound across the last three years has seen the Belarusian artist rise into one of the genre’s most in demand talents. World class DJs such as Eelke Kleijn, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and more have been steadfast supporters along the way, while releases via Replug, Proportion, Afterglow and Mango Alley have been discography highlights.

His most successful single 'Falcon' entered the Top 10 Progressive House on Beatport, rising to the 4th position. It also became one of the 'Best Sellers 2022'. The same story is about his single 'Space' [Replug Records] with the #5 peak position among Progressive House releases in the Beatport chart. It received support from absolutely all the Hi-Ends of Progressive House scene and along with his track ‘On Waves’ was included in the chart ‘Beatport curation: Best of 2023‘. Kostya Outta kicked off 2024 with a strong remix of "Theed" for UV Records which brings back his name into the Top 10 Progressive House Chart on Beatport again.

Since the start of his career, Kostya has managed to perform at many gigs and festivals around Europe and Asia, and has become a regular on the European club scene, sharing stages with Sander van Doorn, Aly & Fila, Westbam, Robert Babicz, wAFF, Dmitry Molosh and many others. From Barcelona to Sri Lanka, Kostya Outta adds a difference to his gigs: “a sound from outta space”, as he says.
