After the success of their first release, DSC – Far Reaching/Too Hard, Holding Hands is back with their sophomore outing and as before it is taking no prisoners.

Inspired by a Nicolas Lutz set as he warmed up Fabric for Villalobos a couple years back, the Furnace has a break beat that will push the subs of any club to the limit. With every build and drop it increases in momentum until you are left with no choice but to throw down on the dance floor with unbridled passion. The Furnace may be all about the big beat but it is no one trick pony. The tune has a depth and weirdness to it that will certainly keep you coming back for more…

The Sorcerer is a collaboration with good friend of DSC’s, Guava. It is made up largely of recorded percussion and vocals at DSC’s studio in South London, which gives it a very special swing on the dance floor. The track lulls you into a false sense of security for the first third before finally letting the big freakiness out of the box. This is one for any DJ that wants to leave clubbers going nuts and scratching their heads at the same time.

Both tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. They want big sound systems and dark rooms.

Ten years after his first release, UK artist Lone is putting out his first ever commercial mix CD. His entry into the celebrated DJ-kicks series lands on 29th September and features four of his own new and exclusive tracks. Today he shares the first exclusive track ‘Saturday Night’: a swirling, pad-laced groove full of summery warmth. 

Born Matt Cutler and raised in Nottingham, Lone has emerged as a standout artist over the last decade. Starting out making hip hop, he has distinctly evolved with each new release. Yet whether making house, breakbeat or jungle, his music always remains identifiable thanks to its bright melodic colours. 

This mix represents Lone as a producer: it starts out with the hip hop of his roots, then moves through some of the music of his childhood and on to a range of his enduring influences. Along the way, he stitches in his own newly produced sounds. “I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone with this,”: he says. “I’m so used to programming my own material on my own albums, that’s sort of how I approached this one.” Purposefully mixed in “a loose, rough way” in his living room on a pair of CDJs, the idea was to make listeners feel like there were in there with him. It’s designed for dreamy late night listening, or intimate headphone sessions, and “plays out a bit like a weird midnight radio show: it’s purposefully all over the place, dreamy and trippy, so you can zone in and out.”

Lone’s DJ-kicks very much feels alive, lived-in and authentic. It is a hugely personal view into his unique musical world and marks another landmark entry into !K7’s long running series.

2019 was the year of breakthrough for Amsterdam-based talent and De Lichting staple Eversines. Continuing on his ascension, we’re chuffed to welcome him to the fold with ‘Plooi’ – a stupendous mini sonic odyssey of sorts, taking us from vaporous skylines to brightly hued seascapes. Both captivatingly melodic and kinetic to the full, the four tracks composing the backbone to Eversines’ new jaunt into elegiac dance territories work their magic in the gap betwixt zen-like atmospherics, velveteen acid, sun-bleached electro and chiseled breaks that step up to the plate.

Whilst the OG version of ‘Plooi’ eases us into a shape-shifting environment, swinging the pendulum between nu-age infused / Sino-flavoured harmonics, lysergic bass phrasing and muscular breaks straight out the UK rave scene’s heyday, the remix from De School resident DJ Oceanic alters the original into a subaquatic dub weapon, navigating its way across frothing and bubbling synth lines to emerge in geysers of thermal bleeping and rhythmic outbursts. A more jacking affair, ‘Efbol’ carves out a lane of its own in between angular techno and playful, retro-laced electronica a la KLF meets James Holden in his ’Idiots Are Winning’ days. Completing the set on a more understated note, ‘Missing’ in collaboration with RDS promises to fill your headspace with thoughts of beauty and quiet. Merging FX-dipped piano chords, laid-back junglism and heavily verbed-out envelopes to form a well unique piece of ambient lushness, Eversines ushers us into a world of vibrant musical rapture, nestling away from standardized tropes and patterned behaviours.

Continuing his hot streak of 2020 releases, Dublin-based producer Dylan Forbes is back with a brand new four-track EP. Dylan’s recent releases have skewed more toward jungle and breakbeat. On this upcoming release via Coymix Ltd, Dylan returns to his house and techno roots, with the A2 track “Closer” being a perfect demonstration of his signature style.



“Closer” is a love letter to that moment on the dance-floor when everything starts coming together, evoking that near-indescribable feeling you get at the start of the night when the club begins to pack up, the punters find their groove, and the DJ slowly builds momentum. The track is built around a four-to-the-floor kick and an understated breakbeat, but these elements soon give way to an electro-tinged lead melody influenced, in equal measure, by old-school trance and current tech-leaning sounds. It feels apt that Dylan draws on these European influences for a release on an up-and-coming label out of Estonia and Finland; doing so whilst channeling the love and passion these electronic styles have always been met with within his native Ireland.

On paper, you would think that the styles Dylan draws from would be at odds with each other. Historically, trance music has always been at its best when it takes you on a bold, overstated journey, while the success of minimal techno and deep tech-house is dependant on the subtlety and nuance of the format. The result here, however, is a roaring success—a dance-floor-ready groove that will have those lucky enough to experience it smiling from ear to ear.
