Here's an excellent new track taken from Soul Clap's forthcoming compilation on Bastard Jazz Records. We hooked up with the Boston duo recently and they dropped this killer track on us for an exclusive full premiere. Scroll down and hit the play button to hear this absolute gem.

Tanner Ross always delivers top quality music, whether it be hip-hop based instrumentals or groovy house cuts, he's one of those guys who's able to turn his hand to anything and do it well. So this killer slice of warped funk was no surprise to us, and we're sure you're going to love it just as much as we do.

Soul Clap's comp has been on repeat in our office for a good few weeks now, we can't get enough of the funk, off-kiler house and generally upbeat party vibe of the whole thing. As anyone who knows about Soul Clap will attest, these guys know how to rock a party for hours on end, with no stopping, and straight on to the after-party. That vibe really comes through on their Tempo Dreams compilation, which is out now.

Prince Monaco is the musical lovechild of Baby Prince and Nick Monaco. It was born into existence in Spring 2015 at the now defunct Marcy Hotel in Brooklyn. This project was a part of the last musical recordings created there, which holds a special place in our hearts.

In Nick Monaco’s words:

"At the time Gadi (Baby Prince) and I weren't interested in making dance music, instead we were diving into punk/industrial. We locked ourselves in the Marcy for an entire week. At one point we set up the TV next to the studio and had the movie 'The Lost Boys' playing in the background, so we ended up effectively making our own soundtrack to that movie (bright ideas you get when you're high). I think this music captures the angst and mania of that period before the Marcy shut down in a really raw and sincere way.”

The brief was as follows:

"The White Light mixes are, ultimately, about two things: music and space. Music first and foremost, as this series is a showcase of great songs, not tracks – songs and mixes you want to listen over and over again, songs that have depth and staying power, and most importantly songs that mean something to each other.

Secondly, White Light is about space – giving the music room to breathe – not a post-a.d.d. mix of everything trendy that can fit onto a mixtape, but one that’s paced to give each tune its shine, where the music is the focus and the mixing is an effortless complement. Over time I’m sure the criteria will change here and there, but White Light will always be about night driving, introspection and taking the time to listen from start to finish – remember to always look into the light . . ."


I really enjoyed doing this, its not often you are able to indulge yourself like this...... 

I imagined myself driving down a solitary road or alone at home with nothing but my thoughts and these songs. Hopefully you'll be able to try it out for yourself.

These songs have influenced me greatly for very different reasons, some are more recognizable than others. Some I have on vinyl, some cd, some digital. I enjoyed going through my old library and piecing them together. I wish there was a way of putting the mix on shuffle as I found it difficult to decide on an order.

I've checked out other mixes in this series after I did mine and it seems mine is quite unusual, I hope you enjoy it.
