At one of my shows in San Francisco recently I got one of the strangest song requests of my career. I was in the middle of mixing in a funky glitch hop throw back banger, when a girl came up and asked for some Fleetwood Mac. Naturally, I had nothing for her. I wasn't about to play a raw Fleetwood Mac track in the middle of a glitch hop set, and I'm not really in the businesses of taking requests anyways.

‘Sup comrades! - This is our submission for the BassGorilla Remix Comp. 

We’ve been busy in the Liberty Capsule working hard on this remix non-stop for the past week. 

We’ve been following both BassGorilla and Slynk for a while now, and we’ve learnt so much from the tutorials it would be rude not to give it a go! 

By no means do we expect to actually win this competition due to all of the fierce competition and the high level of genuine talent we’ve seen in the Facebook group and SoundCloud submissions. We just decided to stretch ourselves and thought this would be a great opportunity for a challenge, and to get something solid finished within the short deadline. That said, we think we’ve managed to make a half-decent job of “Gorilla on the Floor” and put our unique spin on it. 

Big ups to Luke and others @ BassGorilla for the opportunity - and good luck to all of the other participants!

Qdup returns to Fort Knox Recordings with a new single first imagined on the Playa at Burning Man. During his first trip to Black Rock City Qdup performed a special hip-hop showcase at Funky Town and invited MC’s to rock his set and bring the cypher to the desert. San Francisco b-girl and Hip-Hop aficionado Awoke was one of the MC’s that appeared out of the dust and blessed the mic that afternoon and caught the ears of the crowd, inspiring this collaboration. “Sonic Drop” captures the fun of that impromptu Hip-Hop jam in the desert. Late last year I had the pleasure of remixing one of my favourite bands Formidable Vegetable - these guys freakin’ rule! This is definitely one of the coolest songs I’ve ever remixed, the lyrics are dope (“Don’t let the straight and formal / Tell you that you’re not normal” 👌🏼), the stems are amazing, AND there’s a kazoo solo… What more could you want?

After the original mix gaining much love and support right across the board including plays on BBC 6 music, this remix is a welcome addition to the 'Boogie' package. Rising Star of the scene WBBL adds his unique style of Bass and Funk into the melting pot with his take of the already classic Shaka Loves You track. WBBL instantly transforms this into a festival ready battle weapon for the summer, adding his insanely high-level production and a good dose of bass to Fullee Love's (aka Soup from Jurassic 5) smooth vocals. The remix was something of a passion project for WBBL. After hearing and loving the original mix from the Shaka guys, he approached them directly asking for the parts, so he could make his own interpretation as an exclusive version for his sets, but now you can your hands on this tried and tested cut!
