From the headphone dream to a permanent loop

"I never just wanted to make music - I wanted to create a sound that survives me," says Dodakk24/7 and sips a cold coffee in the background, while a new beat pulsates from his studio boxes. The room is small, almost overcrowded with cables, notepads and a microphone that has already seen better days. And yet: This is exactly where the tracks that run on Soundcloud on SoundCloud are created on Repeat again and again.

Dodakk24/7 - The name is the program. "24/7" stands for restlessness, the creative impatience that drives him. "I can't sleep when a hook is spirited around in my head. Then I have to record it - regardless of whether it's three o'clock in the morning or seven in the morning."

A sound like no other
#
His style? Difficult to categorize - and that is exactly the point. Elements made of trap, drill and LO-FI mix with dark atmospheres and texts that sometimes sound like an inner monologue. Sometimes he raps over cold streets and hard truths, sometimes about lost nights and longing for more. 

"He got this flow that caught you before you notice," writes a fan on Twitter. "His beats feel like a film and his voice is the narrator."

Despite the growing fan base, Dodakk24/7 is far from luxury and glamor. "Most of the money goes into equipment and beats," he admits with a laugh. His everyday life consists of studio sessions, hours of tinkering on the mix-and the constant search for the next sound that blows everything. 

"I learned that you don't need anyone to start. You only need a microphone, a laptop and the will to tell your story."
