"Waltz for Mary and John", arranged for string quartet

A three-chorus version of singer-songwriter Vienna Teng's dance track "<a href="http://viennateng.bandcamp.com/track/never-look-away">Never Look Away</a>" from her latest album <i><a href="http://viennateng.bandcamp.com/album/aims">Aims</a></i>. The mix stems for this song are <a href="http://viennateng.bandcamp.com/album/never-look-away-mix-stems">available for free</a> on Bandcamp (thank you!). This mix was made in GarageBand and supplemented with a few of its royalty-free loops. The artwork is by Angelyn Peh and is included with the stems.

I have more experimental ideas for "Never Look Away" as well. We'll see if/when those happen.

I don't know why, but I had this crazy idea to make a cover of "Mama Who Bore Me (Reprise)" from "Spring Awakening".  It's one of my favorite pieces from the show; too bad it's probably the shortest. Such a rousing song. So when I heard it randomly one time, I knew I had to try it out. It's my first cover in a looong time.

This isn't an exact cover of the song. The harmonies can be really tricky, and—of course—I had to change the key.

I made the arrangement completely using GarageBand on my iPad Mini, and then I made edits on GarageBand for Mac. All the vocals, however, were recorded and mixed using Logic Express on my MacBook.

There wasn't a good strumming pattern in GarageBand for iOS, so I decided to make the song "organ-driven" instead of "guitar-driven". It worked pretty well, I think.
