Although only in its infancy, Discothèque Tropicale has quickly gained support from the likes of Antal, Hunee, Mendel, Barbara Boeing, Poly Ritmo and Dar Disku to name a few. 

The collective, London based events series, and licensed reissue label’s first project is focussed on highlighting the sounds of Guadeloupe and the Southern French Antilles. In doing so they hope to champion and honour the talented artists that birthed this beautiful music.


Moziyah
Born Andrew Roberts at 50 Red Hills Road in Kingston, the music capitol of Jamaica. Moziyah grew up in front of the recording studios and outdoor dances, singing competitively from the age of seven. Moziyah acknowledges the influence of reggae legends such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Burning Spear, but was raised on the next wave of reggae artists such as Morgan Heritage, Anthony B., Sizzla Kolongi, Jah Cure and Jah Mason. Moziyah honed his vocal technique by imitating the soul and R&B singers of the “60s. Now his days of imitation are far behind. One listen to “CrossRoads, On The Phone, Dance or Knock Knock” proves that Moziyah sounds like no one but himself.
The influence of American soul music on Jamaican roots reggae mirrors Moziyah's trans-nationalism; He moved from Kingston to the United States in 1997 and embraces all kinds of music. “Music is music, but reggae is my foundation. Righteous music is what I do” Moziyah says. His music combined is a distinctive vocal sound with pulsing grooves and lyrics that expresses his Rastafarian spirituality.
Moziyah's music emphasizes struggle, life experiences, good and bad, love and hate along with the human struggles within his lifespan. Everyone goes through a point in their life where they have to make a significant change. The music represents the day we're living in, the time we're living in, how hard it is to survive, and how easy it is to get caught up. It's about survival, awareness, and understanding on a spiritual level. “This is life, it's part of my journey, I live it” Moziyah says.
Moziyah sings from the heart of the people. Music with true meaning, melodies and emotions. Music that is satisfying to the soul of all nations. Moziyah's music will be made available to radio in anticipation of a full-length album to follow. He is one of the newest and most original artists of the roots reggae revival.
