@polynation created a pallet of all the music and genres that inspired them: "The tracks all have electronic characteristics with an organic feel. And although the first couple of tracks have a lot of energy because of the drumbeats, they’re also sort of meditative: a warm sound with a crossover between acoustic and electronic. Because of the organic sounds, you sometimes don’t even hear whether it’s a synth or an actual instrument. The last three tracks are drenched in melancholic beauty and vulnerability, something we’re looking for in our own productions as well: rhythmic percussion combined with melancholy." “Sonar Kollekting Vol. 1”, releases in 2013, was actually the first true, official showcase of the by now over two decades operating Berlin label. Four years later we already get the chance to get once more a 360-degree view of Sonar Kollektiv's creative work. Four years during which quite a lot has happened apparently. No more than two artists of all the present collaborators on Vol.2 have been already featured on the first edition of “Sonar Kollekting”: Pete Josef and Stee Downes. “Sonar Kollekting Vol. 2” opens up an appetizing prospect on the label's near future when it comes to current and forthcoming releases. 
Just out, for example, is the marvellous electronics-folky album “Wiped Out” by Mooryc, off which the profound song “One Day” is featured here. A bit buoyant is the remix done by Erobique for Marlow's Backroom (on which you can hear Pete Josef). Next to other releases of the past months (The Black 80s, Mius und Tim Aminov), the listener is treated with ten exclusive tracks on this impressive collection. Talents like Dürerstuben already aroused attention with releases on Mutual Musik, Pampa Records und Luettje Luise and now make a lot of noise via Sonar Kollektiv. “Will E. & Gynt Her” implies a splendid feature of the twosome and the label. Together with London based singer Mark Borgazzi, Jad & The (formerly known as Jad & The Ladyboy) also contributes a song thus far unreleased (“Underwater”) to the 15 tracks strong compilation. From Harry Miller aka Glow In The Dark we get “Dark Stars”, a song not to be found on his just released debut “Future Bliss”. There is additional exclusive material in the form of the Nikitch remix of ComixXx' “Can U Feel?”, a subtle remix by ComixXx and Alex Barck for Matthew Halsall & The Gondwana Orchestra's “Into Forever”, a remix by Envee for Pete Josef's “The Travelling Song” (off his 2015 album “Colour”) and new tracks by Dutchman Geurt Kersjes aka Pitto (“Being”), the Italian Hip-hop production combo The Mixtapers (“Take Me Away”) and as well as ComixXx (“Synthesizer Journey”).

The OUTTAKES series starts at the lowest level, horizontal business. I got lost in a stoner loop long time ago, when I recorded some piano through guitar effect pedals, and flipping samples in the NI Maschine. I knew it would become more or less this piece, but it took me a light year to finish it off. I did work on it often as the last thing of the day to calm down after producing Robosonic house & techno. I would become tired immediately and leave the track alone after just a few minutes zoning - or maybe recording a take playing my Mom's accordeon or so, adding a subtle layer...I thought it was a good sign that it made me tired and lazy and I didn’t want to lose that approach by overproducing or overthinking. But I knew I wanted to have this either as the first or last track in the SLEEP OUT mixtape (www.sleep.outtakes.co), so I had to put elements in order at some point.

Years ago I made a mixtape called “Heart Ship Home” and produced the opener ‘Heartships’ myself, which was dedicated to my beloved girlfriend. Over the many years we spent together the term ‘Go Love’ became a symbol for giving each other space and individual freedom based on deepest trust, to go abroad, travel, to worship life and love to the max without losing the feeling of a safe home and being rooted. Last year - really just when the track was finally arranged and produced and hence, also when SLEEP OUT was finished with its last missing ingredient - this tune & title became a symbol for that whole story, as my love had suddenly gone. Spending most of her time in a whole different place and space, allowing too much of a contradiction, and love to tear us apart. Aua.
So I had compiled the most cosy selection of music to rock myself to sleep - which was the initial idea: a tool for whenever i have to rest between club gigs, airports, hotels, trains - but I became awfully insomniac over the situation. I felt I had to wait with this release (relief!) until I had recaptured my ability to rest in peace. Meditation, rational reflection and an incredible amount of appreciation and love by my realest allies was key. You know who you are, dream on.
