This mix was something I put out across the US and Canada as a promotional piece in 2003, sending out nearly 100 copies to record stores and promotional groups. There was a few variations in the artwork, but I only kept the earliest version for myself. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.

Number9 (Pitchslap Music)


Number9 first became exposed to underground dance music in the mid 90’s while attending Eastern Michigan University on a golf scholarship.  Frequenting Detroit warehouse parties on the weekends - as well as the now  legendary club Motor - exposed him to a sound and scene unlike any other.   

National and International DJ talent poured through Detroit on a weekly basis tuning Number9 into the underground house sounds of Chicago, the west coast, and around the world.  Drawing heavy influences from artists such as Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, and DJ Dan helped to shape his own sound and style as a dj.

As part of popular house collective Souldega Music, Number9 eventually decided to branch out from the group.  In 2004, he and a friend formed Pitchslap Music with the intent of exposing Detroit to the new school house sounds that were getting play in many other big cities, but had little representation in Detroit.

Holding down several residencies, throwing one-off parties, and playing gigs all across metro Detroit, Pitchslap brought a fresh sound and style, quickly becoming the go-to DJs for deep, funky house with a tech edge.

Number9 soon gained recognition in Detroit and respect among his peers with his seamless mixing and exceptional track selection. Throughout the years, Number9 has played virtually every major club in Detroit and the surrounding area.  He has held down residencies at infamous electronic music venues such as the Works (“Departure”), Corktown Tavern (“Hot House”), Foran’s, The Buddha Lounge, and the Necto - also making stops in Las Vegas (“Soulkitchen”), Toronto, Cleveland, and Kentucky. In ’06 and ’08, Number 9 played at the DEMF/Movement Festival, one of the world’s premiere electronic music events.

These gigs have given him the opportunity to open for some of the biggest names in House including Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, DJ Dan, “Evil” Eddie Richards, Justin Long, JT Donaldson, The Sound Republic, John Larner, Slater Hogan, Chris Grant, Chuck Daniels, Slum Science, Dan X, Lady D, and Mike Huckaby to name a few.

Always pushing forward, seeking the hottest tracks and perfecting a style of smooth blends with an attention to detail, Number9 continues to deliver an exceptional brand of House music.
