Mike Servito is a  NYC based DJ originally from Detroit. Mike was one of the first 5 followers of this account and he put together a blazin hour mix of 90’s & Contemporary Chicago, Detroit, & New York tracks. Jackin & Acid madness on this one.🤯

Mike came up in the 90’s Detroit Rave scene, and moved to NYC in the late 00’s and quickly became a resident at the Bunker(@thebunkerny), and continues to be a fixture at Detroit’s No Way Back (@ithqdetroit) parties.. To date Mike plays at all the fab clubs &  parties in nyc and is highly featured globally.  During the lockdown in NYC, he played marathon live streaming sets from his living room and turned out one of my favorite techno mixes of 2020(Community Bread).

Sometimes she’s giving house, the fiercest acid & techno sets, and sometimes 90’s R&B & Hip-Hop.. whatever it is it’s always ovahness!!

In his own words: “It’s a very special time of the party, the sun has come up and there is total mental and physical freedom. Performing in this in-between time with 4 CDJs and a Model 1 with a Moog Delay pedal for effects is an amazing dream context, the first No Way Back after the lockdown. This time of night allowed me to explore all the sides of the power of being spaced out and feeling the thunder of the music, bouncing between genres and melding a new sound system music that references sonic hypnosis and liberation in its so many forms, something that could only happen at No Way Back. To be in this space together and sharing this new era together just felt totally magical, I felt cleansed afterwards, the set really reflects these feelings in the moment. African Head Charge is a legendary psychedelic dub outfit who have recently returned to their home label On-U Sound with A Trip To Bolgatanga, their first new album in 12 years. As always it finds the peerless Adrian Sherwood at the controls and joins the dots between what the collective has done before and what they are doing now, all with a distinctly Ghanian twist. The signature drums and chants remain at the core of the album of course, as well as plenty of other thrilling new sonic concoctions on keys, guitar, percussion, strings, vocals, kologo and more. It's the latest chapter in a fascinating story that has already seen them release some 16 albums since its inception in 1981. 

This week's mix is a deep dive into the uniquely melon-twisting sounds of African Head Charge. Sherwood's mastery at the controls means sound is twisted and contorted, dubbed out and reverb-rich from start to finish. Traditional dub sounds melt away into ghoulish vocal passages, unhinged instrumentals come and go and the collective's signature sense of dark soul and mystic ritual holds the whole thing together in a spellbinding fashion.
