EHFM Co-Director, record seller at Underground Solu'shn, and resident for Miss World at Sneaky Petes, FEENA 🤹🏻 has been tearing it up in the Scottish scene for some time now, prioritising community spirit to promote local sounds beyond her home city's borders, with appearances in Bristol, London and Glasgow. a release on Scuffed Recordings, mixing on the NTS and Rinse frequencies, and selected last year for RA’s Mix of the Day, FEENA creates carefree mayhem with trips through high-energy bass-driven selections, playfully brought together through her dynamic DJ style.

this mix, in FEENA’s words, is mostly her enjoying giving in to the lil dubstep devil on her shoulder, mixed with some funky twists and turns. a truly fun blend of old and newer tunes, this mix is a testament to absorbing yourself in your music and simply letting go. 🌀

FAIXA intenta condensar en aquest LP el que significa saciar la curiositat per la música electrònica vivint immers en una tradició que ressona dia a dia a les places i festes de les comarques valencianes de l'Alcoià i el Comtat.

El so de l'àlbum és un diàleg constant entre el present de les arrels i el futur de les generacions valencianes; les cantaores juguen un paper essencial perquè connecten tradicions orals com el «cant de batre» i les marxes de moros i cristians amb l'electrònica d'avantguarda, influenciada per sons propis del dubstep, el jungle o el footwork. 

En comptes d'observar la tradició amb una actitud de conservació museística, FAIXA la tracta com una matèria viva, que es modela i renova amb el temps, on la petjada s'evidencia com erosió en una roca.

Aquest treball de llarga duració, lluny de ser un exercici de rescat cultural, és una afirmació artística que intenta mirar amb altres ulls la música tradicional valenciana, permutant-la amb les influències i les pròpies vivències que serveixen d'inspiració als seus integrants... i és que «el folklore es canta de memòria i haurem de preguntar-nos per què»: FAIXA no pretén analitzar les arrels de la tradició des de la nostàlgia, sinó fer-ho desde la innovació.

Este trabajo de larga duración, lejos de ser un ejercicio de rescate cultural, es una afirmación artística que intenta mirar con otros ojos la música valenciana, permutándola de acuerdo con las influencias y las propias vivencias que sirven de inspiración a sus integrantes... Y es que “la música tradicional se canta de memoria y habrá que preguntarse por qué”: FAIXA no analiza las raíces de la tradición con nostalgia, sino que las reinventa para seguir transmitiéndolas de manera sónica.

FAIXA condenses into their debut LP a conflation of their curiosity for electronic music with what it means to live immersed in the folklore that resonates through the Valencian regions of l’Alcoià and el Comtat.

The sound of the album is a constant dialogue between the roots and the future of Valencian generations; singers play an essential role in connecting oral traditions such as the “cant de batre” and marches of the “moros i cristians” with leftfield electronic, influenced by sounds typical of dubstep, jungle, or footwork.

Instead of preserving tradition in a static way, FAIXA treats it as living matter that can be moulded and renewed over time, its imprint evidenced like erosion on rock.

Far from being an exercise in cultural retrieval, this long-play is an artistic affirmation that seeks to view Valencian music through a different lens, transforming it according to the influences and personal experiences that have inspired its members. And it is certain that “traditional music is sung from memory, so one must ask why” - FAIXA does not analyse the roots of tradition with nostalgia, but rather reinvents them to continue their sonic legacy.
