Weston may not be a name that is widely recognized yet, but it's one that we’re certain has a very bright future. Hailing from Kelowna, BC, he is another example of this region’s immense and deep talent pool. Previously releasing music under the moniker Subclaim, Bryce has been continually improving his chops and working with other producers and vocalists. He has released music on Mat The Alien’s stellar Really Good Recordings and has also remixed Aufect alumni, Half Normal. When he sent us this juicy demo we knew the time was nigh to start working together. ~
This EP is a collection of 4 precision engineered cuts - A perfect balance of Deep and Dark atmospheres that’s lush, warm and brimming with character. These tracks brought us back to the era when we first fell in love with Dubstep and serve as a reminder to why the genre is still alive and well. Weston has enlisted the immense talents of MC Ill Chill, vocalist Sarah Zad and fellow Kelowna-based producer, Toltek on the EP and it shows this young producer’s adept skill in really unifying the tracks and creating a compelling, cohesive package. ~
The EP starts off with the title track, “Ritual”, a dark and brooding Dubstep anthem featuring Ill Chill’s signature baritone refrain over top of sparse but precise drums and mega tonne sub bass. An ode to the magic herb that BC has become well-known for. “Electric Vibration” brings the intensity down and smooths out the vibes with mellow instrumentation and an haunting saxophone riff. Sarah Zad’s buttery smooth verse recounts a deep passion and the magic of a shared love. Ill Chill’s verse tells the other side of the story and we’re left wondering where the wet spot is. “Judgement” is a moody Dubstep stepper that is cloying with it’s simplicity, yet it’s haunting chord stab and sparse vocal stay with you long after listening. Lastly, “Spectraminds” sees Weston and Toltek link up to create a unique, psychedelic footwork cut. Interesting polyrhythmic kicks provide the foundation for saturated bass stabs and an hypnotic arpeggiated sine wave, punctuated by dripping FX stabs.

Schlachthofbronx are back with a series of stand out tunes on their aptly titled Rave And Romance imprint. On the first single Wine 'Til The Morning they feature the fresh italo-carribean artist XL Mad riding a highly energetic dancehall reggae hymn.

Veterans in all spheres of hybrid bass and modern club styles alike, Jakob and Bene from Schlachthofbronx shake things up a bit and start into 2020 with an uplifting dancehall reggae tune celebrating dancing and wining into the early hours, call in summer early on the way and effortlessly explore how a modern, carribean inspired pop song could sound like in the new decade - without denying its roots in soundsystem culture.

With the italian/jamaican/puertorican artist Xl Mad on vocal duties (also a member of the Numa Crew from Florence/Italy who recently also released his debut album Badman Chronicles via UK outlet Nice Up Records), Schlachthofbronx enlisted the perfect match to ride their bass heavy riddim with some well crafted and autotuned lyrics. Perfect for the club - and always ready to catch a wine!

Together Schlachthofbronx and XL Mad managed to hit that special zone with Wine 'Til The Morning where a tune would neither be out of place in your connaisseur, up-to-the-time Dancehall & Reggae dance, various carnival sessions all around the world - nor on any “summer on the beach” playlist ever created.

With this, Schlachthofbronx will follow up their 4 previous original albums (2009s Schlachthofbronx, 2012s Dirty Dancing, 2014s Rave And Romance and 2017s Haul & Pull Up), completed by Eps and singles for Labels like Zam Zam, Mixpak, Monkeytown, Mad Decent, Disko B and Man Recordings as well as production work for artists like M.I.A., Snoop Dogg or Bonde Do Role.

This mixtape is the context to understanding the music off my latest release Freedom Fades EP.  An audio time capsule, this mix is descriptive of a time in isolation, brought about by a global pandemic. Clips of news media, illustrate how songs such as "Chiney Virus" and "Social Distancing" were written in reaction to the changing times.  Bonus tracks such as "Good News" remix and a spoken word "Epilogue" offers exclusive sound bytes only for this mixtape.  
The mixtape ends with voice messages from friends and artists around the world sharing how the new norm has impacted their livelihood.  It is in these voices connecting, that we are reminded that although in isolation, we are not alone.
