Episode 08: Meridian.r

This eighth foray into the otherworld is helmed by another resident of the UK’s North - Sheffield based Meridian.r. Curator of the excellent Cycle podcast - formally an event series bringing some top tier deep techno talent to an intimate warehouse in the Steel City - it is currently a series of mixes that shines a light on the northern adjacent left-field electronics scene.

No stranger to helming the decks himself, having been pushing the deep grooves at the likes of the iconic Groundwork and Magnetic North as well as his own events, we had the fine selections of Meridian.r on showcase at one of our recent monthly gatherings - wandering through a delightful garden of sounds that fit very well with our own tastes here at Portal.

Another entry into the series composed entirely on a pair of 1210s, Meridian.r’s mix weaves from the depths of ambient oceans through dub techno infused breaks and chuggers, the energy building tacitly until equilibrium is found in a heady concoction of hypnotic techno that rides the interplay between drive and groove in style. Predawn Records is a beacon for all deep techno lovers out there, and Stuttgart is truly lucky to have them. They've built an incredible community in the South of Germany with their intimate shows, collaborations, artist spotlights, and experimentation. No strangers to us here at Delayed, Predawn is made up of Tama, Nils Edte & Laima Adelaide. Founded in 2021, the label has been a home base for the 3 artists & their musical output. An interesting tidbit you may not know about them is the way they're so deeply rooted in classical music. Marko, Nils and Laima all have a background in the genre which explains the precise yet tactile & delicate nature of the releases on the label.

For TAMA's (Marko Mrdja) latest release, "Arc," he’s carrying the torch for the Predawn sound. A quick look at his page will give you insight into his other projects, including playing the piano for the Soundrise Quartet. Across all his work, Marko's passion and musical learnings shine through, reflecting a commitment to composing, producing, and playing music that simply makes him happy. We all crave different things throughout the day, and across seasons, and Marko’s projects embody that.

Blueish-silver. A gentle pulse, propelled by subtle, distant soundscapes and everyday sounds captured. What they are I’m not sure, but they are certainly comforting and reassuring. The song is smooth—there are no sudden jolts or surprises, just a finely crafted track. Listen to it, then listen to it again, and again, it only gets better, as the details and new sounds reveal themselves with every listen. 

This track and the rest of the EP including a remix from Rambadu will be available to purchase via their Bandcamp page digitally and on vinyl on the 10th October.

For our sixth release, we are pleased to welcome Italian DJ and producer @Gabsphere . With his solo debut, he presents Radiatopses EP: a refined and mature work that reflects both precision and personality, marked by distinctive sound design and a contemporary vision. Throughout the EP, diverse textures and atmospheres flow seamlessly, guiding the listener through evolving sonic landscapes before gracefully returning to the point of origin.
To complete the release, Argentine artist @ForestOnStasys delivers a remarkable remix of Ehecatl, imprinting his signature rhythmic touch and bringing the EP to a perfect close.

Premiere: Gabsphere - Ehecatl

n his debut album, raptAGOG draws inspiration from imagined scenes of geological movement — tectonic plates shifting, subducting, and pressing against one another. This hidden but perpetual motion beneath us stores potential energy, waiting for the moment of release, when the earth begins to shift and reshape.

The album opens into a rugged, shifting landscape, where sounds roll and echo in gradual motion. This energy builds across the work, unfolding through cycles of tension and release. Earthy and textural sounds ground the work in a shifting and fracturing geology.
