A DJ and producer from California, Kerri LeBon fuses her love of techno, industrial and EBM with a modern approach and a vocal delivery that can only be hers. She has released tracks with Nation, and had mixes hosted by Intergalactic FM (as a guest of Knekelhuis), Phormix, Digital Tsunami (a split with Silent Servant) and Jealous God (the CD with Issue 5). She is currently working on several projects, including a collaboration with In Aeternam Vale (their track, "The Voyeur," is included here) and readying her first solo material. A remix for Alexey Volkov is set to be released on 12" for Stellar Remnant this Winter. She is the host and resident DJ of an intimate electronic music night, titled Discipline.

For our second Truancy Volume of the year and our 168th overall, we're able to welcome a rising talent based in Boston by the name of Isabella. Having made her big break last year with a killer split on Börft alongside the equally as talented and on the rise Bergsonist, her music has crept up on a number of weighty compilations in 2017. Last month saw a track called 'Dying & Denying' appear on Allergy Season and Discwoman's 'Physially Sick' and just this week she dropped another cut on 1221's 'Comp 4' which also featured music from close Truant affiliate 2Lanes and number of other producers such as Beta Librae, Umfang and Shawn Sullivan. With news of Peder Mannerfelt curating a compilation which she'll be contributing to, in the pipeline this year, her name is definitely one to keep an eye out for. We caught up with Isabella to discuss how she was brought to her current sound, her time spent living and studying in Boston, and how her visual work informs her music. Her mix, which she describes as a collage like assembly of sounds is wonderfully woven collection of experimental touches and tape manipulation, with some hard hitting hardware jams thrown in for good measure.

The next release on the always impeccable Subtext is by Yair Elazar Glotman, following on from his 2015 'Études'. Based in Berlin, Yair Elazar Glotman is a classically-trained musician and sound artist. 

Besides previous works on Subtext including Études, a collaborative score with James Ginzburg experimental film Nimbes, and the eponymous debut of his Blessed Initiative project, Glotman has released music via Opal Tapes and others under the nom de plume Ketev.

Yair Elazar Glotman is a composer and sound artist living and working in Berlin. His focus is on experimental electroacoustic composition, sound installations and sound sculptures. 

In addition, he works as a sound designer and composer for film, dance and video art. His education includes Classical Double-Bass, electroacoustic composition and Art and Media studies, where he explored the gap between sound art and contemporary music. 

His work has been played at various sound venues and music festivals around the world, including ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Volksbuehne, CTM festival, Steirischer Herbst, Donau Festival and Atonal festival.

Pjotr has been an integral part of Swedish nightlife for over a decade, DJing and holding residencies in the most respected venues of the capital. Pjotr is also one half of the celebrated gay night Polari, founded in and taking place in his hometown Stockholm.

Benedikt Frey spent most of his active years so far in Darmstadt, Germany. At the age of 16 he found interest in DJing somewhere around the dancefloor of Kairo club in Pforzheim, where one of his older friends took Frey to a local drum and bass party called 'Mescolanza'. After a while Benedikt started buying records at the local record store Deck 20, mostly jungle and drum and bass, obviously. Serious interest in music production came up at the same age, but for some reason the young man decided to focus more on playing records rather than making his own. 

Fortunately for us, this has changed over time. Benedikt now lives in Berlin and already has couple of dozen of releases on many important labels such as Live At Robert Johnson, Creme Organization, Mule Electronic, MRT, just to name a few. His debut album 'Artificial' just dropped on Lovefingers' LA-based ESP Institute. This double LP is beautiful collage of 13 layers cut from techno, acid, post-punk, new wave and trip-hop.

Looking back across the years, Dekmantel are in the process of unearthing some of the finest, and well curated sets from label founders Thomas Martojo and Casper Tielrooij - DJing as Dekmantel Soundsystem. As part of the Archive series, this -the second in the series- is taken from last year’s Dekmantel event in Tokyo, clocking at around three-and-a-half hours of shakers and gems, that traverse a range of finely curated, and well mixed records, encompassing a rich variety of styles.

Last year, Dekmantel turned up to Japan bringing with them a full-force of international talent. Taking place at the newly opened club Contact (run by the same between behind the legendary venue Air), Dekmantel hosted the likes of Palms Trax, Peter Van Hoesen, and Randomer, along with a healthy mix of local talent. It was the second time Dekmantel had hosted an event in Tokyo, and after the roaring success of the first in April of the same year, it was a no-brainer that Thomas and Casper were going to return with an even stronger contingent. During their set, Thomas and Casper, ran through a whole series of styles, emotions, and perfectly selected records, ranging from obscure East Asian delights to, electro-space-wave, and melodic, harder techno. Defining them as journey makers, Thomas and Casper are the reason you turn up at the beginning, and stay until the end.

Beginning with more wistful ambient, and obscure Eastern jazz interspersed with slavic radio transmissions, some of the finest moments come with the likes of wave classic ‘Systems Breaking Down’ by Anna, Twice A Man’s cult-classic ‘Decay’, and the infectious Indian jam, ‘Udi Baba’. Along the way there are Dekmantel staples like ‘Vitamin C’ Can, and ‘Red Light Down’ by Vaino, Vaisanen, Vega. Picking up the techno baton at around two-hours-fourty mark with ‘To The Stars’ by Skylight, the energy meters are pushed to the max, heading towards a darker, analogue, pulsing rhythm - highlighting the duo’s nuance for harder styles. Winding down, Thomas and Casper drop the lesser heard Aphex Twin remix of Curve’s ‘Falling Free’, along with some Levity Sound.

FADER Mix: Standing On The Corner

One of my most favourite record labels became 20 this year. Hospital Productions was founded in 1998 when Dominick Fernow was 16 years old. Cassettes and CDrs were released in its early years, many of Fernow's own creations under the name Prurient, as well as various local acts. Fernow is a prolific artist recording under numerous aliases including Vatican Shadow, Fernow is best known for his dark and abrasive musical output under the stage name Prurient.

Over the next year (Nov 2017 – 2018) Electronic Explorations will be celebrating 10 years. 10 years of publishing music by Rob Booth's most favourite artists and labels. For this 10th anniversary celebration Booth has approached those labels that have kept the quality high, those labels that Booth has a close connection too. Hospital Productions kicks the Label Series off - and what better timing with the label celebrating their own 20 year milestone.
