This episode of Global Vibe Radio features techno DJ and producer Dustin Zahn, one of Midwest's most respected and liked artists... and that's saying a lot given the great company he is in. 

Originally from the United States but now based in Berlin, Zahn delivers a euphoric and hypnotic hour of dark and mystical elements. 

The story behind Dustin Zahn is not a particularly unique or exciting one. There are no breakthrough moments or mentors who have taken him under their wing. But since 1998, his work has put his career on a slow and steady ascent. Along the way, Dustin has gained over 10 years of experience and unrivaled musical diversity as both a producer and a performer. This alone has earned him respect among techno and house legends, purists, and contemporary DJs. 

He now performs regularly around the world at some of the most reputable clubs and festivals along with some dodgy, sleazy warehouses and beach parties in-between. His DJ sets are much like his releases. “I like it dark enough for the boys, but groovy enough for the girls.” With a preference for marathon sets and his laid-back approach to life and music, he seamlessly traverses through various genres which creates a unique, hypnotic vibe that isn’t found among most DJs. As a producer, his releases on labels such as Drumcode, Rekids, and CLR have brought him international success. 

While Dustin’s original productions are something of the rare and special sort, it’s his remixes that have helped catapult him into the collections of DJs everywhere. As a remixer, he has done work for the likes of Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, Green Velvet, Dubfire, Nic Fanciluli, Mark Broom, Joel Mull, and many other high profile acts. Despite his busy release schedule, he still finds time to own and operate Enemy Records. Founded in 2004, Enemy focuses on the same late-night hypnotic techno that you’ll often find in his DJ sets.

2023 is also the year we will begin hosting our first Influenced parties. With a team on the ground in London working towards our first event, we hope to deliver a party that showcases the last 2.5 years of label releases, and an experience for the Influenced family to enjoy together for the first time.

Ende Juli 2023 - auf dem Acker des Nation of Gondwana Festivals - haben wir ab Mitternacht des zweiten Festivaltags den "Bei Birke" Floor übernommen und zu dritt die musikalische Reise in den frühen Morgen gestaltet. Vor uns ging es sehr schnell zu und um die Tanzenden in ihrem Beat weitergrooven zu lassen, stiegen wir hier ein und fuhren das Tempo langsam runter - in ein wunderschönes Morgengrauen. Dort angekommen, breiteten wir euch einen sehr groovigen Klangteppich aus, voller kleiner Details und mit viel Platz zum Verlustiggehen. Wir freuen uns sehr, dass wir - Erika, Mareena und Resom - euch dorthin begleiten konnten. Viel Spass beim Nachhören!  Danke Team "Bei Birke" und überhaupt an die "Nation of Gondwana" für den praktischen Einblick in eine gelebte Utopie.

At the end of July 2023, on the field of the Nation of Gondwana Festival – in the middle of the night of the second day, we were allowed to take over the musical design of the "Bei Birke" floor and start a journey into the morning with those present. Before we took over it was quite fast, so to let the dancers groove on in their beat, we stepped in and slowly brought down the tempo, into a beautiful dawn. Once there, we spread you a very groovy sound carpet, full of small details and with so much space to get lost. We are very happy that we - Erika, Mareena and Resom - could accompany you there. Have fun listening! Thank you team "Bei Birke" and in general to the "Nation of Gondwana" for the practical insight into a lived utopia.

NTS ~ GiGi FM B2B Altinbas At Stone Techno Festival 2024

Punk house and techno from a modern Midwest icon.

Every DJ has their own genesis story: a pivotal sound, a formative scene, a defining philosophy. In Kiernan Laveaux's case, her philosophy, rooted in psychedelia and experimentation, sets her apart. Inspired by Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode and New Order, she came of age in Cleveland’s acid house and queer party scenes, developing an ethos that constantly pushes dance music’s limits. Her DJ style is scrambled (in the best way), with zany tricks like scratching, creative EQing and modulation.

This approach reflects the Midwest's DIY tradition, where artists thrive in isolation and cultivate a radical disobedience, as seen in contemporaries like Eris Drew and ADAB. As Laveaux recounted in a 2023 interview with GROOVE Magazin, "Titonton Duvante once told me that being a Midwest DJ is about playing music from anywhere and making it sound like a piece of your spirit."

Spanning two and a half hours, Laveaux's RA Podcast showcases this spirit. It’s a testament to her decade-long career, blending tracks from friends and cherished memories into a transcendent mix. It’s "music to shake your hips to and decalcify your pineal gland." (For the curious, the pineal gland helps regulate your circadian rhythm.) RA.963 will make you dance and think in equal measure—a beautiful, restless and resolutely wicked journey through a singular imagination.
