Turkish-born and Prague based DJ and producer Pink Concrete is known for adding ‘pink touches to concrete music’, essentially adding upbeat and playful touches to Techno, both when producing and mixing. Pink Concrete relocated from Istanbul to Prague in 2015 and is inspired by the city’s rich electronic underground scene. He contributes to the scene with various event series: small, underground parties called Kave, Pinkies club nights and recently developed label and light and sound centric event project hereandthere. Pink Concrete has graced the decks in cities such as Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris for venues and event series such as Berghain, Lofi and Spectrum Waves. 

Pink Concrete’s productions are groove-based and up-tempo yet evoke a sense of nostalgia. His mixes can incorporate different genres, from Hard and Hypnotic Groove to House and Breaks. This groovy mix incorporates driving basslines with melancholic melodies to create an introspective feel.

Berghain 07 | Function

"Sound systems are really what move me." The up-and-coming techno artist talks about the physicality of sound and how psychedelics inform his work in the studio.

What makes a good artist? In this RA Exchange, British DJ and producer Andrew Shobeiri, AKA Rene Wise, reflects on being a relatively new name in the scene and considers the success that ultimately comes with time and experience. "There's never a point where you're done," he says.

While Shobeiri is only a few years into his career, the up-and-comer already knows how to draw a crowd. He has finely tuned a highly kinetic and hypnotic techno sound that's brought him legions of fans and bookings on the world's top club and festival lineups. He divulges the ingredients that go into a Rene Wise set, including sound sources from genres beyond the club, like salsa, Iranian radif and the strange orchestration of Steve Reich. He also talks about his experience with psychedelics—which helped lay the groundwork for some of his most formative musical experiences—as well as how sound systems have changed the way he perceives and composes tracks for the dance floor. I dont often share recordings from my longer club sets but Open Ground is somewhere i instantly felt comfortable and I enjoyed these 6 hours so much that I felt compelled to share them with you.

Hands down, one of the best, if not THE best soundsystem in the world right now! If you ever get the chance to experience it, don’t miss out.

Merging future-facing, hi-tech abstraction with a sixth sense for those inescapable rhythms and a wonky, off-kilter sonic engineering, Marie-Julie entices us down the path of complete mind-alteration. Constantly shifting gears, her vinyl blends run the gamut from dystopian murk to ankle-snapping old skool breaks, through lysergic psychedelia and chromatic dubs a la Basic Channel, without ever losing in cohesion or attention to detail. Do not resist, but just let this mad whorl of sound grab you and fling you into an entirely uncharted, demented zone of its own.
