BULLSEYE - VOL.1

Bit of a rollercoaster, but more or less captures the past few months. Frustration, tension, happiness, and a touch of defiance at the close.   Many of the colors in the art are the colors I see in the selection. A lot of these tracks carry sentimental value to me, and I hope you enjoy this edition of my mix series as much as I enjoyed making and sharing it with you! Get fkn silly.

BULLSEYE's first guest mix is brought to you by none other than Mola Mola.

London-based DJ and promoter Mola Mola is one of the faces behind the experimental club night playbody. 

His sets lean heavily towards dubby, dreamy, and percussive sounds while the intensity of his output varies depending on the occasion. 

His BULLSEYE contribution is inspired by the arising colder days and long commutes where the timeless tracks included work as a perfect soundtrack to get lost in thoughts. The mix was recorded on three decks using a flowing layering technique.

BULLSEYE's fifth edition is brought to you by Iris (they/she). Based in Montréal, the promoter, DJ, and selector extraordinaire runs Underground Love Affair.

Message from Iris:

This was the first mix I recorded in the New Year. I was really excited by the content and wanted to take some risks with it and push the gear that I was using to its limit. There's a lot of experimentation that went into the mixing like utilizing loops in vinyl mode with the pitch slider as a manual delay for example. 
The mix entirely consists of underground selections from South America. 
A lot are independently released and very few have a vinyl release.
That being said, I wanted to showcase just how good these finds were. 
A lot of time went into researching and curating for this mix and I'm really happy to share what I've discovered.

This mix was a bit of a puzzle to decipher and sadly I couldn't include everything I found. There are a lot of different styles I wanted to include and to make them blend I sometimes relied on the feeling and energy they gave me instead of trying to match them by their musical components.
It was a different and challenging way to mix but I'm very satisfied with the final product and I hope you find the same joy in listening to it that I did in recording it.  

This mix was recorded on 2 cdj 350s and an x-one 23:c mixer.

This week we turn to another close Dekmantel family member in Matrixxman. In just a couple of years the American has emerged as one of the foremost producers in the house and techno world. His rugged analogue sounds have come thick and fast over nearly 20 EPs and are famous for their balance of quality, invention and diversity. Never sticking to the same sound for long, his Sector series on our label proved that, roaming as it does from repetitive peak time techno futurism to mind melting acid and back again. Always focussed squarely on the dance floor, that carries over into his always body jerking sets, many of which have been at Dekmantel events and festivals around the world. 

Over the course of an hour here, the artist goes deep into a streamlined, intergalactic techno soundworld. Supple synths are layered up over pressurised and rubbery drums, manic melodies circle the grooves and there is a sense of darkness to the whole thing that is truly compelling. As energy levels ramp up throughout, you can’t help but go hard right until the blissed out ambient end game.
