Over the past few weeks we’ve become content again in the fact that a familiar face is appearing in Jæger’s booth. Olefonken is back ladies and gentlemen and after a short stint in London, during which time he released the amazing Quaaludes EP, he is back at Jæger assuming his residency amongst Celius, Oskar Pask and Ricky Late. To mark his return Ivaylo pushed him into the booth for the Æ mix and boy was it a welcomed sound. Olefonken’s charismatic diversity in the booth shines through yet again, calling on elements of Funk, Disco, House and Afrobeat, all tied together with the DJ’s distinguished ability to find a clear path from the past to the present. There’s a quirky charm to the personality behind the music and his selections, something universal that he expresses here through swing beats and beguiling melodies that conspire around low slung tempos for this particular mix. It’s a mix as easy as a Sunday morning… or a Wednesday afternoon and it will certainly keep us in good company until the next Æ mix comes comes to town.

"I was introduced to Abi at the end of 2010 through a mutual friend - Johnny Dub who co-runs the excellent Manchester night hoya:hoya. Instantly I was blown away by her voice.
I sent her some stuff that was on a slightly different tip to my usual beats. She dug it, sent it back, I worked on it some more - Tobyjug was born and i'm glad to say it has been the start of a long working relationship and friendship.
 
We worked together a lot last year on her solo material and the year culminated in Abi flying to Berlin to work with Benjamin Damage and I on our recent album They!Live.

For this mix I wanted to play a bunch of my favourite tracks of late and represent the range of music that I'm really into. I particularly chose songs that could stand their own and be played in their entirety, or near enough. 

At the moment I'm working on an EP for 2nd Drop, another release for Push & Run and a collaboration project with various artists, singers and musicians. There's also a collaboration EP with Maribou State and myself that's nearly completed, more info on all of that to come soon.

Since releasing his debut album Illuminate in the summer of 2014, Buckinghamshire-born and Brighton-based producer Alex Banks has progressed from being an in-demand remixer and Solid Steel ‘Mix of the Year’-winning DJ to that and so much more today. From touring Europe with Moderat to DJing in Tokyo for Red Bull Music Academy’s EMAF, via countless live performances at continental festivals including Germany’s legendary Melt, he’s raised his own bar, his own way. And what comes now and next is just as forward thinking as the material he’s put out previously, unbounded by electronic music’s typically rigid genre barriers and capable of connecting with an audience on a cerebral as well as a physical level.

A key word is emotion: Alex’s music has it to spare. Just as Illuminate made you move inside and out, so Alex’s next chapter is sure to be full of heart-swelling builds and a very organic sense of euphoria. Caves showcases the history of Rocket Empire - from the distant past of working in record stores and the excitement of the first notes from a favorite artist’s freshly dropped track to the vastly different musical landscape of today. Social media now allows Rocket Empire to connect with fans from across the world, giving them insight into who they are and which songs speak to them.
 
With that connection in mind, Rocket Empire wrote Caves as a love letter to the fans. With this album, Rocket Empire were able to do what they do best – collaborate and have fun! The brotherhood and working relationships of the band remains the best part. Making music they love and sharing that music with the world has always been the goal.
