"Lilith's Awake" by LILITH'S RIB

(Fairly tale continued from Witchtape #96)

It was now two weeks since the 9 year-old blond girl had arrived in the witch’s forest and so far the speed and ease of her transformation from human to witch was absolutely stunning.  Every day, the green-eyed little witch was teaching the blue-eyed little girl about the plants and animals of the forest, as well as her very first fun witch spell, making little floating lights at night.  So far the little girl had a very pleasant stay in the witch’s forest, but she was also a bit lucky that it was the time around the summer solstice, which is probably the easiest month of the year to walk around barefoot and spend the night in the open air.  On that day though, the long spell of fine weather came to an abrupt end as dark clouds amassed above the woods and the rumbling sound of thunder came closer and closer.  As witches live in the open air, they don’t have much shelter for the rain.  A small rain shower is easy to weather as the witches go and stand under a big beech tree.  But the little witch saw immediately that this thundershower was just too big, so she activated plan B to avoid them ending up soaked to the bone.  The little witch and the blonde girl went to the tree nymph and all 3 women slipped out of their immaculately white dresses and gave them to a family of badgers, who tucked them away in a dry place in their underground network of tunnels.  
And then they all waited for the rain to start and the magic to happen.  They all heard the soothing sound of the rain coming closer and closer, until they felt the thick raindrops fall on their naked skin.  The blonde girl was amazed how pleasant this feeling was, with the warm summer rain gently massaging her skin.  The 3 girls spontaneously started a rain dance around the totem pole which had been erected on the trunk of a dead tree.  This tree had been cut down 5 years ago by a wicked logger (see Witchtape #14 by Phil.Ok!) and the beautiful totem pole had been patiently carved out by a family of woodpeckers, in honor of the defunct tree.  The girls also danced around the little oak tree which the little witch had planted as a replacement for this ill-fated tree and which is destined to live for 1000 years and become the future mother tree of the forest.  After that, the 3 women sang a few sweet ancient songs, before wading into the nymph’s pond and floating gently on the water surface, while the thick raindrops gently massaged their faces.  It was so much fun that the little blond witch started to giggle spontaneously.  
And after the rain had stopped near sunset time, the girls got out of the pond, dried their bodies and hair and slipped back into their immaculately white dresses, before wrapping up this beautiful day with a long and tender group hug …

The Oddness is the project of Melbourne producer and performer Warwick Ferguson. The sound of the Oddness is Downtempo yet energetic, with punchy tribal drums and huge bass lines wrapped around the long slow burning structures of progressive house.

The Oddness Launched his live set in 2018 and has since performed at some of Australia’s premium festivals including Rainbow Serpent, Let Them Eat Cake and ChiWowWah Town. The set is full of improvisation and can go anywhere from laidback and melancholy through to a chunky, driving gut punch. Recently he has been joined by Multi Instrumentalists Dylan Jarred and Timmus, performing as a 3-piece band.

His first release came in early 2018 on Uone’s label Beat & Path with a huge remix from Electronic music legend Adam Freeland, quickly followed his debut album ‘Culmination’ on Griff’s new imprint Corymbia Recordings. 2019/20 saw a string of releases and remixes for labels Pipe & Pochet, SolSelectas, Shango Records, LNDKHN and Sofa Beats, as well as remixing Satin Jackets huge hit Automatic for Eskimo Recordings.

A European tour was booked for 2020 including Boom, Noisily and Vibronica festivals, but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 situation. This led to some serious studio time culminating in his second album ‘Observations as a Stranger’ out now on Beat & Path.

As Dj sets up his turntables in the dimly lit temple, he notices a figure emerging from the shadows. It's a monk, dressed in flowing robes and holding a mysterious object in his hand. Dj greets him warmly, and the monk responds with a smile, saying that he has come to request something special from the DJ.

The monk explains that he needs Dj's help to create a magical, spiritual experience for the temple's visitors. He wants Dj to use his music to transport the listeners to a higher plane of consciousness, where they can connect with the divine.

Dj is intrigued, and asks the monk to explain more about what he has in mind. The monk pulls out the object he was holding – it's a small, intricately carved wooden box. He explains that it contains a powerful spiritual energy, and that by opening it at the right moment during Dj's set, they can amplify the magic of the music.

Excited by the challenge, Dj begins to prepare his set. He chooses tracks that are uplifting, ethereal, and filled with otherworldly sounds. He mixes them together with precision, gradually building the tempo and intensity until the room is filled with a pulsing, spiritual energy.

As Dj plays, the monk watches intently, holding the wooden box close to his chest. Finally, at the peak of the set, he nods to Dj and opens the box. A burst of light and energy explodes from within, filling the room with a sense of wonder and awe.

For the next hour, Dj continues to play, the music flowing through him like a spiritual force. The visitors to the temple dance and sway, their eyes closed, lost in the magic of the moment. And when the set comes to an end, the room is filled with a sense of peace and contentment, as though everyone has just experienced something truly special and transformative.

This was the first time I got the chance to play such slow and deep tracks for a proper audience - I am so happy downtempo made it to your ears and dance moves, this means a lot to me.

In the heart of Bali, nestled amidst lush emerald forests and terraced rice paddies, there existed a small village named Sebatu. This village was renowned throughout the island for its deep-rooted spiritual traditions, and the most anticipated event of the year was the Sebatu Ceremony.

The Sebatu Ceremony was a celebration of gratitude to the gods for the abundant harvests and the blessings bestowed upon the village. It was a time when the entire community came together to honor their ancestors and the spirits of the land and water that sustained their lives.

Preparations for the ceremony began weeks in advance. The villagers meticulously cleaned the sacred temples, adorned them with fragrant flowers, and crafted intricate offerings known as "canang sari" to present to the deities. Canang sari were delicate baskets made of young coconut leaves, filled with colorful petals, rice grains, and incense. Each offering was a work of art, a gesture of love and respect to the gods.

As the sun dipped below the horizon on the eve of the ceremony, the village came alive with the sound of gamelan music and the scent of incense wafting through the air. The men and women dressed in traditional attire, their faces painted with intricate patterns, and their heads adorned with fragrant frangipani flowers. They carried offerings on their heads and led a procession towards the sacred spring that gushed from the heart of the village.

At the spring, a revered elder known as Ketut led the ceremony. He blessed the offerings and performed a mesmerizing dance, calling upon the spirits to grace the village with their presence. The villagers watched in awe as Ketut's movements seemed to bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual worlds.

As night fell, torches illuminated the surroundings, casting eerie yet enchanting shadows on the faces of the villagers. They circled the spring, chanting hymns and praying for prosperity, harmony, and protection. The air was thick with reverence, and the villagers felt a deep connection to their ancestors and the land.

The climax of the Sebatu Ceremony arrived when the villagers collectively released thousands of floating lanterns onto the water's surface. The lanterns, like stars descending to Earth, carried the hopes and dreams of the community. They shimmered in the night, casting a warm glow that mirrored the unity and love that bound the villagers together.

As the last lantern floated away, the villagers returned to their homes, hearts filled with a sense of peace and fulfillment. The Sebatu Ceremony had not only strengthened their bond with one another but had also reaffirmed their connection with the natural world and the divine. It was a reminder that in this tranquil village, the old ways thrived, and the spirits of Bali continued to watch over their beloved Sebatu.

Liquid Bloom and Poranguí, the dynamic duo known for their immersive journey music, have once again graced us with a masterpiece in the form of "Inner Sanctum (Medicine Buddha Mantra Prayer)." As part of their Kuya Series, which explores unique soundscapes for psychedelic therapy, this track stands out as a potent and soulful expression of sound healing.
The origins of "Inner Sanctum" can be traced back to the “Kuya Sessions: Samadhi” album, where it initially featured an excerpt of the Tibetan medicine buddha mantra sung by Poranguí.  Recognizing the potential distraction in its repeated presence during psychedelic therapy sessions, Amani Friend (Liquid Bloom) and Poranguí made a difficult decision to reduce its prominence in the original 25 minute track. This left them wanting to create a refined 9-minute version that beautifully showcased the Medicine Buddha Mantra.

Collaborating with the talented David Satori of Beats Antique and Dirtwire, Amani and Poranguí introduce a unique element to the mantra incorporating the haunting and mystical sound of the bowed banjo. The addition creates an ethereal melodic atmosphere, reminiscent of traditional East Indian instruments, providing further depth and texture to the rich sonic landscape.
The layers within "Inner Sanctum" are a testament to Liquid Bloom and Poranguí's commitment to weaving organic elements into their journey music. The careful arrangement of these layers creates a sonic tapestry that invites listeners to embark on a meditative exploration of their inner selves. In a world where chaos and stress often dominate, "Inner Sanctum" serves as a sanctuary of tranquility, inviting listeners to experience a sense of healing and solace.

The origins of the Medicine Buddha Mantra are deeply rooted in the tapestry of Tibetan Buddhist culture and lineage. Believed to have been bestowed by the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, as a potent catalyst for healing, this sacred mantra holds a profound significance within the ancient scriptures and teachings. Woven intricately into the fabric of Tibetan Buddhist practices, it serves as a conduit for the transformative energy of compassion taking the listener on a sonic pilgrimage towards inner peace and well-being. 

As the Medicine Buddha Mantra resonates through the composition, it carries the intention of healing, making this musical offering more than just a sensory experience. It becomes a spiritual journey towards inner peace and well-being. Liquid Bloom and Poranguí have once again demonstrated their ability to craft music that transcends boundaries and elevates the soul. May this track indeed bring healing to all who lend their ears to its sacred vibrations.

Reweaving a new society, that is able to complement and integrate all the colours of the rainbow into one big Carpet.
