"Melodic and driving, driven and melancholic - put into a nutshell its this dualistic groove that defines Jonas Woehl’s sound. Packed with impressions and directions, grounded by a firm but never overladen bass, its about finding a balance without taking sides. Not deciding between light and darkness, but rather dancing in the shadows and enjoying both. It’s in this concept that the young Dresdners sound design has put itself to the test, beginning with high-carat remixes for top-players such as Jay Haze and Fritz Kalkbrenner, he has developed and mastered stepping over the border of conventionalism and going towards his own interpretation of emotional dance music. EPs on german top-notch labels such as Get Physical and Solee’s Parquet Recordings have ultimately been a game changer for Woehl and his debut album on the young Berlin-based label Lenient Tales follows this path. Bringing out „White Sheets“ - a 10-track journey on the back of this nutshell - he follows the perception that there’s neither black nor white, but rather a hazy blend. 
Beginning the album with a beatless dark-ambient piece - shadows of voices running in the background - these voices become clearer in the vocals of colleague Locoto, parallel to the steady introduction of bass and percussion. Touches of post-rock industrial mist slowly creep their way through the beginning minutes - there’s no haste because Woehls sound stands where it does without having to go anywhere. Letting himself be inspired more by bands than by other electronic acts, its in the light-dark-analogy that the album gets its distinct ambivalenz between solid techno structures and unconventional shuffles and spheric approaches - nonetheless orientating itself on a live-performance programmatic with similar BPMs. Starting with a straight-forward minimalistic „Leaving Me“, the following track „Winter“ leaves the traditional 4/4-building blocks aside and creates a wonderful broken-beat Apparat-isch dream landscape, accompanied by crisp voice loops and soothing strings. Dark-fuzzy industrial stomper „Is This“ and hi-hat whirling „Stockholm“ flatten out the base from which the epic vocal-collaboration with Wyoming sets out from. A central clap and shuffled percussion give the broad placed synth of „You Want To“ the experimental framework as the emotional climax of the album. Continuing with the loop-swirling, ambient firmness of „November First“, the vocal collaboration of David Clement on „Not Looking At You“, Woehl finishes off his debut album with the name sharing „White Sheets“, spinning dizzy synths into a mediative trance state, bordered by a dub-staggered drum arrangement, which rounds off the hazy blend perspective of Woehls production. "

As the Summer draws to a close Serge Devant returns once more to Damian Lazarus’s Crosstown Rebels with the highly infectious ‘This Moment’ EP. Serge original tracks are accompanied by a great Dinky remix, to complete this great package.

Opening up the EP with ‘This Moment’, Devant has created a track that implores the listener to stop and take in all the vibrations, effects and melodies. This is a piece of music that intricately weaves together a hefty bass, curious sounds and an addictive horn. Pay close attention to ‘In Time’ and you will be absorbed once more in an enchanting world where all you can do is follow the rhythm of the drums. El funk, el house y el disco fueron algunas de las razones que llevaron a Iván y Andrés a decidir, hace algunos años, en sus épocas universitarias, a emprender el viaje que hoy en día tiene como nombre Discoholycs. Un proyecto que rescata a través pistas bailables y frescas el groove y la excentricidad de los 70`s y los 80`s con un aire actual.

“Don Genaro Ep”, su más reciente producción, es un homenaje a su viejo amigo y mascota que los acompañó durante años. Como parte de un tributo que se le rinde a su mejor amigo, este Ep cuenta con dos producciones originales: “Don Genaro”, track muy influenciado por el hip hop ochentero, acompañado de synthes futuristas, y “Que es Funk?”, una producción, más cercana al deep house, con cierto corte hip hopero en sus beats. Este duo reitera su amor por el funk, a través del sampler de una entrevista del padrino George Clinton.

Así mismo, 4004 de México y los italianos Black Loops, participaron con tres increíbles remixes que logran plasmar de manera clara el concepto detrás de “Don Genaro Ep”.

El próximo 31 de Octubre, Nómada Records lanza el más reciente trabajo de este duo compuesto por Ivan Grndfthr y Andrés Tarquino.

Funk, House and Disco were some of the reasons that led Ivan and Andres to decide a few years ago, in their college times to undertake the journey that today is known as  Discoholycs. A Project that rescues through danceable and fresh music that Groove and eccentricity from 70’s and 80’s with a modern air. 

“Don Genaro Ep” their latest production, is a tribute to their old friend dog called “Genaro” who accompanied them for many years. This Ep features two original tracks: “Don Genaro” a track heavily influenced by the eighties Hip Hop and Funk, accompanied by futuristic synths, and “Que Es Funk?”, a production closer to Deep House mixed with Hip Hop beats and samples. This duo spread their love for the Funk by sampling an intevirew by the godfather of the funk “George Clinton”

By also the mexican jazzy man “4004” and the italian deep funky dúo “Black Loops” participated with three incredible remixes that manage to capture clearly the concept behind “Don Genaro Ep”

Nachtbraker is back! It’s been a huge year for the Amsterdam deep house juggernaut who returns to Dirt Crew with his all new and colorfully titled “Really Ties The Room Together” EP. Constantly on the move, he’s found time between touring throughout Europe, Asia and South America to continue to push his a-typical house sound forward with this year’s HEIST release and his quirky jam “Busy Bee” that was featured on our “Deep Love 100” Compilation.

This three tracker is jam packed with bouncing club tunes and a whole lot of flange. Things kick off with the title track “Really Ties The Room Together”. It twists and turns over an unconventional but irresistible groove, shimmying shakers, brass stabs and a serpentine riff work together creating a super tight dance floor cut.

“Rew” begins somewhere in deeper territory, suspense building beneath the clouds, a rumbling bass rolls in from over the horizon before a glorious funk guitar blows the whole thing wide open, letting the sun’s rays burst through and that familiar Nachtbraker good time energy shine in. The rerub of “Rew” is something altogether new from our deep house protagonist, a break beat and casual groove guide gently towards an ever intensifying acid trip. Don’t be fooled by the lovely deep chords, things get nasty in the end.

It’s best to expect the unexpected from our adventurous resident producer, and this EP is no exception.

It’s Suol Summer Daze season. That one time of year, where we gather artists from the extended Suol family to put together tracks we believe add an extra kick to the positive vibes coming from sunbeams and summer atmosphere. These are gifted producers from different parts of the world sharing one common denominator - soulful deep house music.

After some years of the compilation being released in the familiar format of an album with a tight tour de force of tracks, we've decided to try with a new form - this issue will be a series of 3 compilation EPs. The intention of it being, to give all these strong and independent tracks a sharpened focus. Each EP will therefore consist of 6 high-quality, exclusive and previously unreleased tracks from both Suol and the extended family.

This EP takes off with Atjazz’ “Programme Sunlight”, which is an electronic, emotional & trippy deep summer groove.

Once again delving into the deepest regions of the vast house music ocean - trawling for top-drawer tunage - Vinny Da Vinci and the team at House Afrika Records have caught some big fish for the seventh volume of ‘Deep House Sounds’ – and snagged some seriously distinctive rhythms.

The big fish include some of the grooviest names in the current dance music game; the likes of Home & Garden featuring Lisa Shaw, Abicah Soul (remixing Vick Lavender) and Jamie Anderson & Owain. And there are some very special catches too: contributions from a couple of the recent wave of DJs who have visited SA and become enamoured with its vibrant scene.

These recent visitors to (and vocal ambassadors for) the country include Harley & Muscle (the latter played gigs here alongside Kerri Chandler in 2009) and frequent flyer to these shores, French producer Rocco, who has two cuts included in Vinny’s smooth brew, one of which (“Love Sunsation”) is exclusive to the collection.
	
But as “sunsational” and special as this cut is, it’s just one of the cogs in a fully funk-tioning, hard-driving and highly-charged set that’s seamlessly strung together by a DJ whose credentials are unquestionable, and who’s still on the cutting edge of SA house culture two decades after his dancefloor debut.

“This latest ‘Deep House Sounds’ isn’t a radical departure from previous installments,” according to Da Vinci, adding with a smile that, “It’s not necessary to fix something that isn’t broken!” But he says he feels that the collection takes a leap forward in terms of the freshness of the sound, and reflects the widening appeal of more upfront sounds on SA ‘floors.

The fact that this is the seventh in the series – House Afrika’s most successful and essential line – says volumes in itself, and with an experienced groove navigator at the helm, house fans know what to expect. And that is simply the brightest beats around, superbly segued and then vacuum-sealed for long-lasting, body-flexing effect…
