Close your eyes and merge into Benedikt Frey’s 'Fastlane'. Imagine sitting in the driver’s seat of a an automobile, one with exceptional horsepower and torque, as you stare out the windshield at the red light, warping in fata-morgana a mile down the road. It’s a straight-away, a black top with two lanes, and against your better judgment you decide to floor the gas. No hesitation in your muscle, your ankle or the ball of your foot, which you now realize is some kind of universal pivot, the first point of contact fusing your body with the will of machine. In this moment you’re in awe that you, a human, an animal, grew from pond scum into something so advanced as to engineer this thing, a mechanical beast capable of overwhelming power and exhilaration. But you also feel a seductive dread, an outside force diverting you from caution toward a dangling carrot of curiosity, asking yourself, ‘How far can I take this thing?’ The dread, now a constant, is numbed, equalized by an adverse intoxicating gratification. You feel both sensations in real time, however, rather than take responsibility for yourself, friends, family and innocent bystanders, you cement your foot to the floor and lean your head back. Noise around you fades to mute. Smell the benzene-scented air, feel the wind on your face, the menacing vibration of the vessel you control beneath you and every grain of asphalt under its tires. This mile has now lasted an eternity and you’ve left your body for some objective view, as if watching climax of a film. Past the point of no return, you embrace abandon and lean into fate. The film becomes slow motion, a crawling pace so mesmerizing you convince yourself of an option to eject yourself from this madness, but as you finally let go of your last morsel of fear, you run the red light head-on into the nucleus of a fantastic glistening sculpture of torn metal, glass, oil, broken dreams and heartache. 'Fastlane' may be just drum machines and synthesizers if you’re timid, but listen harder and know the catastrophic reality of existence, a wreckage so gruesome we dare not rubberneck, but afterall it is our nature to stare.

PREMIERE: Benedikt Frey - Crank [ESP Institute]

For almost two decades Jeffrey has been a programmer in the underground cinemas of Amsterdam, describing himself as a 'cultural activist'. In this podcast he and Vanja explore diverse soundtracks to neglected and forgotten movies. When the use of music in modern cinema has become clichéd and standardized, perhaps it is better to turn to the abandoned past for inspiration. Therefore in this podcast-journey there is an emphasis on delving into uncharted territory—secret places of mystery and otherworldly alternatives. Jeffrey feels it's in these buried treasures that a hard-hitting counter-culture can be envisioned. During our discussions in between the music tracks there is also an attempt to create a different idea about how music can be used in movies, one where the music clashes against the image rather than melting together with it emotionally.

This selection of music soundtracks traverses many parts of the world, embracing directors like Andrzej Żuławski, Kenneth Anger, Marguerite Duras and Shuiji Tereyama... and features music by Jean Guérin, Andrzej Korzyński, Bernard Parmegiani, Wanda Warska and Toru Takemitsu among many others.

“This mix is a personal journey through 25 original improvisational compositions I recorded over three sessions in Ableton Live. Using a Novation Launch Pad controller and some outboard effects units, I explored several themes: space as a utopia for queer identities, an endless ecosystem for exploration and curiosity, and a home in which we can freely roam. Each track reflects my attempt to capture these ideas through sound, blending textures and rhythms in ways that feel authentic to my process.

The mix includes several working compositions for an upcoming album, alongside some re-imaginations of pop songs that have inspired me. I wanted to create something that feels both innovative and familiar—a space where ambient moods and dynamic energy can coexist. It’s a glimpse into where my music is headed and the ideas I’m working through right now.”

MOAB is a Montreal-based collective that embraces improvisation as its guiding force. Long, unbroken sessions where intuition eclipses thought, and where the body moves before the mind.
This is their first offering, released on Knekelhuis. A document of instinct, frozen in time yet endlessly shifting.

For EDWIN MUSIC CHANNEL, he joined forces with his friend Menqui, who is overseeing the administration for the R.i.O. label, is part of the Berlin-based Muting The Noise Record Store and Distribution crew, runs a radio show for Cashmere Radio and plays regular in all those small, but delicate Berlin bars and little dancefloor venues. Together they prepared an epic mix, created live and direct in Menqui’s living room, featuring all sorts of music from pop, Trip-Hop, and Hip-hop to free-tripping electronic grooves.
