Dreams Consciousness Bomb

The new artist is Northsir.  It's my last name, backwards, and somewhat spell-checked.

Northsir sits in his car "vocal booth" with an Android phone, bluetooth to the car's speakers, the Voloco app, and cranks out delayed Super Vocoder sounds.

Then Northsir takes those bits and hands them over to Mark Rushton who processes them into a not-Chopped but somewhat-Skewed track with multiple slow beats, reverse sub-bass, a sample of my disquiet0427 contribution "Noise Replacement", and a processed sample of Phil Kuhlenbeck's "Bitch You Off The Hook" - the backing track of which I made originally.  Mix about 16 tracks together in an hour, and here you go.

Off The Hook (disquiet0468)

For this collab I created a beautiful racket with someone close to me, THE_THE. The base for the track was some left over repeats in Mimeophon that had some gated noise being fed into it, so old looping feedback with new stacking clicks. Lots of modulation from around the rack was fed into Mimeophon.

After this, for the first time ever in the Junto, two more tracks were recorded with a Ciat-Londbarde Tetrax--the first multi-take, multi-part submission from me. I panned the three tracks slightly so they weren't sitting on top of each other, but they probably don't have enough space. That's okay. It was fun to make.

Split Persona (disquiet0468)

My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)

Since 2012 I have moderated the Disquiet Junto group, which began on SoundCloud. More at disquiet.com/junto. 

I've written for Nature, Pitchfork, The Wire, Down Beat, Boing Boing, NewMusicBox, Red Bull Music Academy, Art Practical, the website of The Atlantic, and many other publications. 

I've exhibited sound art at galleries in Los Angeles (Crewest), Manhattan (apex art), and Dubai (DUTAC), and I had a audio-visual installation at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of its 45th anniversary.

And since 1996 I've run the website Disquiet.com about the intersection of sound, art, and technology.
