The talented and prolific Jan Robbe - aka Erratic - is back on Acre, this time under his Atomhead guise. Altogether much harder than Downward Echoes, Logic Gate’s five tracks see Robbe combining elements of flashcore and speedcore with his distinctly recognisable glitch sound. Despite the frenetic rhythms and eye-watering bpm Atomhead creates rich ambiences and a sense of space which at once both cathartically bludgeon and cleanse, bringing to mind Save, R-ictus and classic La Peste. These are tracks to lose yourself in: powerful, fearsome and intricate with closing number, Methods of Deconstruction, a relentless trip to the core of a vortex.

Atomhead - Logic Gate (Out Now!)

A remix/cover/interpretation that I've been wanting to do for a long time--all done on an Elektron Monomachine SFX-6 (multi-tracked).

Track1: Main "101/202"-style synth = SID machine. 
Track2: Main drums = BBOX machine
Track3: Low intro pad = SWAV ENS machine
Track4: Later high and low pads = SWAV ENS machine
Track5: Monomachine's reverb machine
Track6: Alternate drum parts = BBOX machine

Only used a couple patterns and tweaked them in realtime.
I suppose I could have gone the lazy route and just done a stereo mix, but I wanted it to sound decent. I multitracked, mixed, arranged, etc. like a normal person, this time.

Perhaps, this one is not as ambitious as my "Stud" remix, but I was (purposely) limited by the Monomachine. I liked how it turned out.

Sound design and techno experimentation are both familiar territories for Munich-born, Berlin-based audiovisualist, Monolake (Robert Henke). A name that 50WEAPONS are very excited to welcome to the family, forming part of their closing 12" series. This is the seventh opus out of ten in total, split between Henke and Anstam, with "VT-100" on the flip ranking highly in our books. Henke elects the unexpected, with a sampled live drum kit providing the reverb-rich percussion throughout the techno-inspired track. Six minutes of a well versed sound, turned on its head.

Monolake "VT-100" - Boiler Room Debuts

Since emerging last year, Nachtbraker (Maurits Verwoerd) has been cultivating his laid back, funky house sound with his last four releases on various labels including Hudd Trax and Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings. Verwoerd now returns to his roots by presenting his next opus, the Backstabber EP, on Dirt Crew Recordings – the imprint that also homed his very first release back in September of last year.

Our top pick and first up on the flip is "Time is of the Essence", with a slow-developing, intrinsic funk that we have now learned to expect and love in Nachtbraker's music. The track's unbounded energy and embedded groove is anchored by its speaker-rattling bass line, making it an ultimate choice for any dancefloor.

Nachtbraker's Backstabber EP drops on vinyl (27 Nov), and digitally (30 Nov).
