Umberto Echo is a Munich-based (music) writer, (dub) professor, (sound) hermeneut and multi-instrumentalist. Umberto Echo seizes the raw musical backbone of a riddim – specifically reggae – and uses it to generate multifaceted dubs in the studio as remixes or LIVE tracks.
In the past he has worked as a sound engineer for Jahcoustix, Jamaram, Headcornerstone, DS & TH, Dub INC, and has produced international reggae vocalists and deejays such as Alborosie, Junior Kelly, Luciano and Luton Fyah, as well as remixing a host of artists, including Gentleman, Seeed, Steelpulse, Sly & Robbie, Damian Marley, Stereo MCs. 
 
Nestling between digital echo chambers and analogue tape loops, his aim is to hop between Duke Ellington and King Tubby, opening up a new musical cosmos and consensus in the process. This is something he achieved with his albums DUB THE WORLD, DUB TRAIN, ELEVATOR DUBS – and it’s a feat he has effortlessly and emphatically repeated on the new album, THE NAME OF THE DUB. As with his previous releases, the decisive characteristic of the new album is the breathtaking international class and quality of the fundamental tracks, which is studded contributions from French Dub Inc. or Splendid from the Netherlands, or House Of Riddim or Horace Andy or Eek-A-Mouse or, or, or…!!! The album features a high carat line-up and not only scores points for providing an extra helping of bass, but also flirts with pop, danceability ... and format art. 

The new album THE NAME OF THE DUB, which is released on Echo Beach, showcases UMBERTO ECHO as a sound manipulator, sitting cross-legged on a bass speaker, a man who operates the mixing desk, software and outboards with just as musical virtuosity as he plays keyboards, guitar, bass and drums. While Umberto Eco tries to explain the world in his novels, monographs and essays, there is only one true language for Umberto Echo: to dub the world. In October 2014, Lincoln Valentine Style Scott was murdered in his house in Manchester, Jamaica. He was 58 years old. At that tim he had just finished his work on “Hard Food”, the first album released by his Dub Syndicate since “No Bed of Roses” in 2004. Dub Syndicate’s first studio album for eleven years, an event that was to be a joyous celebration with friends, has now become Style Scott’s legacy.

NOW, exactly one year after his death – the new dub scene of Europe will tribute to this legendary drummer. The trademarking song “DUB IS ALL I GOT” will appear in 14 different version and excursion as a kind of REMIX Clash. A fascinating and splending bass experience and in the very sensitive way the remixers and admirers paid tribute for is more than excellent…!

With Style Scott the reggae world, and indeed the entire world, has lost one of its best drummers. His unexpected, tragic death is devastating for his friends and family, to whom we express our deepest sympathy. At the same time, Style’s music – both sounds and lyrics – reveal that his life was rich in warmth and harmony. His death has made our lives poorer.

 In collaboration with notable Jamaican producers Bebo Phillips and the late Clive Jarret, Honest Music presents Kingston 16 Riddim LP. Originally recorded in the early '80s, this obscure treasure features Grammy winners    Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare on drums and bass and a never-before  released song "Mama Makusa" from Lone Ranger, one of the most lyrically inventive deejays of his era and a major influence on the early British dancehall scene.
     
      Fast forward to 2016, the lead single, “Real Reggae Reggae” features the golden voice of Scotty P, lead singer of Jah Works, one of top bands on the US east coast. Perfect Giddimani aka “Mr Perfect” lends his voice on the nostalgic ”Ms Rose Bwoy”. Ras Attitude, the soulful  Rastaman from St Croix, US Virgins Islands delivers the anthemic “Marijuana (We Ah Bun). Jamaican pioneer, Carl Malcolm aka “Mr Fatty Boom Boom” himself, joins a cast of veteran and upcoming artists: Christos DC, Tomawok, Lenny Kurlou, Shadrach, Desii Hyson (Moja Nya), Monsoon and Yusuf the Starlight Rocker. 

      “We here at Honest Music are proud and humbled to be apart of the revival of a tune from the classic era in dancehall reggae,” conveys singer, producer Christos DC.  “We must always remember the true origin: the roots,” Bebo Phillips explains. “They are the foundation of life and the wings of the future.”
