I'm a sucker for male/female vocals, especially when they're mixed with the kind of gloomy New Wave sound on display here. Maybe it's just the accent, but this guy sounds a bit like Morrissey to me.

This one has got the earwormy makings of a real pop song. As much as I generally detest songs that make me feel like I'm a tween girl being serenaded, I'm strangely ok blushing and giggling to this one. Tee-hee.

Dive bar rock & roll meets indie folk in this infectious, rollocking jam. It doesn't surprise me that these guys hail from Boston. I can kind of imagine people dumping a bunch of tea in the harbor while this blasts in their ears.

What starts as a haunting ballad quickly takes on a surprising heaviness both lyrically and sonically. With just a bit of distortion, a hell of a vocal range, and a surprisingly gnarly guitar solo, this Brooklyn duo's self-described "electro-acoustic" sound combines the best that each of those worlds has to offer.

If I had to pinpoint what I find so damn enticing about this lyric-free beat, I'd have to say - it's just chill. In only three minutes, Tennyson builds an entire Indian soundscape out of everything from the trickle of a creek to a hawk soaring overhead. The through line - an exotic and mesmerizing melody - unites the eclectic nature sounds into a somehow cohesive song that I just can't stop replaying.

Hotly tipped indie-electronic four piece Native People return in 2016 with their fresh new single and sound, 'Don’t Save Me’ released as part of Killing Moon’s January Compilation Album.

Youthful and full of ambition, Reuben (22), Luke (22), Connor (19) & Hudd (19) have combined classic 80s synths with fresh indie-electronic ties drawing influence from contemporaries like Shura, Friendly Fires and Two Door Cinema Club. Don’t Save Me is no exception, every inch the summer anthem with sharp guitars, warming synths and melodic vocals arriving in time to welcome lighter evenings and hotter days.

Support for the four piece has grown rapidly since the release of their debut single, Calm Forever which saw the lads secure titles such as Record of the Week (BBC Introducing Kent) and Discovery of the Week (Amazing Radio) plus feature on the likes of Clash, AMBY & Spindle.

The quartets vivacious live set saw the lads sell out Club NME at London’s prestigious, Koko and caught the attention of indie experts Propaganda. Eager to get their new show on the road, Native People will be heading back out in the van on a UK mini-tour in March 2016.

Listeners familiar with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's previous album Euclid (an album that prompted Dazed to call her "…one of the most pioneering musicians in the world.") will no doubt notice her heavier use of vocals on her new album EARS.  On all but one song, her gently ecstatic swells of vocals emerge to soar over a dense jungle of synths and woodwinds.

After initially composing on a Buchla analog synth, she wrote arrangements for a woodwind quintet, added vocals, and further refined the pieces with granular synthesis techniques she developed in her sound design work (she contributed sound design to Panda Bear's "Boys Latin" video, and handled sound design and original compositions for Brasilia co-written by and starring Reggie Watts).   

Kinetic arpeggios of synths pulse, often buoying her graceful vocal mantras, while woodwinds breathe and flutter, emulating the wildlife Smith observed while growing up on the West Coast (she even studied recordings of slowed down bird calls prior to composing these pieces).   Though some of her gestures echo the musical tropes used by early minimalist composers, the world she creates on EARS is uniquely hypnotic and full of life, not unlike Miyzaki's film Nausicaä, which she cites as an inspiration.

@et_aliae is a pianist, composer and producer who makes refined and future-forward electronic pop. Her debut EP, Rose, is a collection of crystalline, late night jams that reflect her diverse range of influences - from Johann Sebastian Bach and Chopin to Ana Caprix and Aaliyah. Lead single, "Sober," sees et aliae collaborate with the inimitable D∆WN (Dawn Richard) to deliver a downtempo ballad that's as heartbreaking as it is lovely.

Raised in Singapore, et aliae was classically trained on the piano. In 2012 she relocated to London to study design at Central Saint Martins and a more contemporary form of her music took shape. When she eventually started posting early demos online, accompanied by imagery that playfully merged consumer technology with femininity, an enthusiastic fanbase formed. The tracks were undeniably special, pulling from reference points as wide as dancehall and trap to commercial pop and modern composition.

In 2014 she released her first actual track on Ryan Hemsworth’s Secret Songs compilation, ffb6c1, and simultaneously caught the ear of Cascine. et aliae has since applied her elegant, otherworldy touch to remix key singles for ASTR, Kero Kero Bonito, Lemonade, Anna of the North and more.

Rose is released March 4, 2016. The EP’s cover art was created by Berlin’s, András Csuka.
