ge•ot•ro•pism - jēˈätrəˌpizəm [noun]: the growth of the parts of plants with respect to the force of gravity. The upward growth of plant shoots is an instance of negative geotropism; the downward growth of roots is positive geotropism. 

'Geotropism' is the seventh release from Outtallectuals and it is an exclusive compilation of genre-bending and thought-provoking intelligent electronic music. Showcasing music from Future Chill and Electronica to IDM and Glitch / Neurohop, this album is designed and promotes some of the artists Outtallectuals discovers and works with. We are extremely glad to be able to showcase these artists from Norway, UK, New Caledonia, Canada, USA, Austria and Hungary and the following paragraph aims to best describe the experience you will have: 

Starting with the soothing sound of producers Willas Rod, Kromatic Sounds and Koyo, this Equinoxical release initiates with the tone of laidback yet intrinsic sound design. Next up Baxtak and Glott continue the 808-inspired side of the album with their orient-influenced tribal trap collaboration. Afterward, things really start to get weird. Aversive creates an inner core deep neuro IDM banger, Refraq and Sora collaborate to make a cinematic 120bpm IDM gem, and The Creature and Bell's Worth cook up arguably the most daring experiment yet splendid genre-defier of the album. Last but certainly not least, Dirty Zen provides an insightful and glitchy electronica suite while Erik Kolderup creates an autumn evening-feel glitch-hop composition.

"The long awaited treasure is finally within sight. You’re deep within a damp cavern, the smell of stale air invading your lungs with each passing breath. Many secrets are held inside this ancient place, but you finally have hands on what you came for. You run your fingers across each facet of the newfound prize which now sits safely hidden within your coat. Now for an exit. Without warning, the innocuous rock planted firmly beneath your feet morphs to the worn concrete of a city street. Odd, you think. Teleportation wasn’t an expectation of the trip. Even in the pitch black night, you can make out a figure in the distance. Shadowy yet bright to your vision. He begins to speak as he approaches, but his language isn’t discernible. Blips, crackles, and mutant gyrations. So foreign, but somehow you recognize a pattern. A message. “Wake up,” it says.

This is only one telling of “Paper Tales”, an EP from master of audio Fine Cut Bodies. Swirling, meticulous sound design is the focus of many of his tracks. Expertly blending psychedelic modulation with cinematic themes, each song acts as its own page of an adventure still in the making, a coloring book with the lines yet unfinished. Truly a testament to a perfectionist nature, some songs included here have taken shape over the course of years rather than mere hours or days. December 31 2019: the end of the before times when artists were free to travel, congregate and perform, a group of musicians gathered to celebrate life, love and music by jamming together for 48 hours at our studio in the reconverted ruins of an industrial farm in the Loire Valley. Free from the invisible enemies that now stalk the land and prevent the physical connections that nourish and sustain us, we laughed, played and danced together. 

As a tribute to those times, La Briche Audio presents this fine collection of extracts from that jam session. This eclectic selection celebrates the elusive musical magic born of spontaneity and physical connection. We hope it reminds you of the importance these moments play in our lives and will help to sustain you through the troubling times ahead.
