Originally released by Musical Freedom, the instrumental edit of 19-year-old Oliver Heldens’ deep house smash ‘Gecko’ has become a staple in club sets for 2014, peaking at #2 in the Beatport chart and garnering support from the likes of Pete Tong, Danny Howard and Zane Lowe. 

The latest edit ‘Gecko (Overdrive)’, written and vocalled by Becky Hill during a late night recording session with MNEK, is being released by Parlophone’s vital new dance imprint FFRR. Initially written for another vocalist, Becky’s towering vocal on Gecko’s chorus was deemed the perfect fit and has already been coined the ‘Hottest Record in the World’ by Zane Lowe.

On the flipside of LUV013, brazilian producer and one half of “The Rimshooters” ROTCIV lays down two complex yet dancefloor oriented house tracks. “Old Good Luvin’” is a soulful house hymn that pays tribute to synth driven early italo and classic chicago house. ROTCIV intertwines the different styles to create his very own blend of deep house.

“Just Take Me Higher” evokes similar feelings but has a slightly darker touch to it. Eerie John Carpenter-esque pads contrast the punchy bassline, eprom drumbeat and organ stabs to create a mood coming straight from an 80s elektro joint.

“Deep Down”, the digital bonus track, shows ROTCIV going all the way to 90s Jersey house. Synth stabs and a shuffle beat are the key elements to this track.

It might not be overstated to call „You & Me“, the debut album by Jacob Korn, long overdue. Ever since the Dresden resident decided to focus more on the House side of electronic music in 2007 he released music that is equally good as it is promising. With records out on labels like Running Back, Dolly and of course his home base Uncanny Valley he’s been fueling expectations for a long play record.

Since he has been playing around with electronic music for the first time in the mid-
nineties, Jacob has always been very much into producing together with his pals. So it was only natural that “You & Me” turned out to be an album that summarizes a lot of the collaborations that happened over all the years. Whether it was with an artist who played in his hometown Dresden or with someone who showed him around the town he was performing his live set at, Jacob never missed the opportunity to get together inside a studio and just jam along. Those sessions not only resulted in a lot of friendships but also in a string of music that take House music to all its edges. A track like the dark and dirty “Heteronomous” with Uncanny Valley fellow Sneaker lines up alongside the bright and sunny anthem “Punta Del Este” together with Belgium’s San Soda. Artists like Christopher Rau or Mr Raoul K add their trademark sounds but there is always that specific approach of Jacob Korn that connects the tracks. But besides that conceptual background: “You & Me” is an album, which is here to extend the listener’s summer.

The concept of collaboration is even expanded on the cover artwork. A team of seven graphic artists led by Johannes Timbernagel interpreted the same template of Jacob’s face in their specific style. To bring them all together Johannes texturized a 3D-Model of Jacob’s head with a collage of all the drawings.

Bruno Cardoso aka Xinobi has built an enviable reputation over recent years, kick started partly by his association with Discotexas and to some extent by his outstanding release on Kris Menace’s Work it Baby label in 2010. His truly eclectic tastes and broad reaching styles have made him a genuinely exciting producer from whom you never quite know what is to come next, this is also reflected in his outstanding DJ performances. His recent remix of the Moullinex single ‘Darkest Night’ on Gomma was a highlight of the package whilst his own ‘(I Hate the Sound of) Guitars’ was a standout release for Discotexas last year.

For his latest release Xinobi drops two brand new tracks, kicking off with the excellent ‘Puma’, a classic House inspired cut that fuses an old school organ line with shuffling percussion and hooky vocal samples to great effect. On the flip, things go a little deeper with the melodic and laidback ‘Woods’ journeying into atmospheric and hypnotic territory with its mix of ethereal pads and insistent bass, quality stuff.
