Dumb It Down

Electroacoustic ('musique concrète') piece Inspired by the high mimetic capacities of the starling bird, which can imitate about any kind of sound, including machines and synthesizers that, in return, imitate nature in their mechanical extravaganza (the ARP2600 creates R2D2, which sings and babbles like a bird, etc.). A bird imitates a machine which imitates a bird. On a loop.

Flocks of starlings can be made of millions of individuals. They form huge black clouds in the sky that evolve in ever changing waves and shapes. No leader, no chief, no follower, but a collective 'brain' that keeps adapting to itself constantly.
Those flocks are called 'murmurations'.

First ICS track swap with multi-talented Michael Iago Mellender (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, The Lower Animals...).
Michael was in Oakland, I was in Paris. Track swap was made during a couple of nights. I made 2 compositions (Flat Frog and Iago) and sent them to Michael for further enhancement/destruction/reconstruction; Michael sent me 3 tracks which I rewrote in return.
The final result was not heard by any of us before weeks, when Michael came to Paris and we celebrated our physical encounter with a big Cromorne 13 party.
[Fun fact : at the very end of Flat Frog, you can hear, right through the right ear, Michael shouting "Did you get that?!?", which is an allusion to the physical distance between us - an ocean - and the means to communicate through music - the internet -]
