Following up from work on Björk´s 'Fossora', Icelandic trio 'sideproject' debut on SVBKVLT with their new full-length album 'sourcepond'. Taking influence from the fog-covered wetlands of their native island, sideproject transfigure influences from the low-end frequencies of grime and bass music, and reshape it into a haze of transient-smeared beats accompanied by breathy synths that grow ever wetter till they slip beneath the surface tensions of their harmonic stratum. Compared to previous output, 'sourcepond' opts for a more concise approach to their music, stacking up their influences of experimental electronic, Icelandic punk and contemporary club music, and builds a sound that oscillates between melodic hooks and experimental rhythms. Each track carves through the sensuous material, pulling the listener into the dank sourcepond as though magnetic forces were guiding a bird's beak towards misty horizons.

The 45th release of katharsis is the EP "Intrusion" by Italian artist Lefka, releasing in full on October 28th. Throughout the six tracks of the EP, Lefka swaddles the listener in a dense and distorted quilt of sound that feels both heavy and light at the same time. "Intrusion" is a release that aims to sonify the acceptance of intrusive thoughts through a kathartic and emotionally intense experience.

Through heavy use of granular synthesis and electric guitar recordings, the release varies from calm, introspective moments to peaks of intense sound pressure. Like through glass, the sounds refract and are broken into pieces, creating an aural effect of rebound and confused scattering, and like intrusive thoughts, the tracks have abrupt peaks that reset the silence with unsettling intensity.

Lefka is a multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam. As in a stream of consciousness, his own productions are characterized by an irreverent and disillusioned approach, which aim to detach from a precise genre-categorization.

@haana_lee is no stranger to the label, guesting on our NTS show back in 2023. We're very excited to share their special release titled 'The Closeness of Toxicity'.

The name is inspired by a chapter of Yasmine Ostendorf-Rodriguez's book "Let's become fungal!". The intention is to highlight impurity and the functionality of toxicity in relation to noise.

The Closeness of Toxicity uses analog sound design techniques to create dynamic yet penetrating drone, seeking to create grounding, meditative tranquillity out of deep, almost disturbing base of noise. This one hour piece was recorded in one take using a Korg CX3 and different effect pedals, with a focus on improvisation, stereo image, and the physical impact of sound.

The set is a snapshot of a year-long exploration of live improvised drone played on different electric organs while haana lee was touring Latin America and Europe, that they brought back to their hometown LA and their own drawbar organ.
