“Adalai” is an exploration into discomfort in the modern era. The first half, consisting of acoustic guitar, electric bass, and vocals, is a protest addressed to Adalai--a fictional, antagonistic, and confounding politician. Synthesizers and computer-generated drums overtake and dominate the protest song as the present devolves into an unpredictable future under Adalai’s regime. I played each part individually, with the synthesizer section featuring improvisations overdubbed onto a previous take. “Adalai” ends with a discordant, unnatural cacophony, to emphasize the lack of resolution in ongoing frustration.
