Just like Lady J Huston’s live shows, this new album grabs your attention right at the start and does not let go. From the first hit of “Your Call” to the final note from her live rendition of “At Last” this project is jam-packed with several intriguing original tunes, bright horns, groove, so much heart, a killer rhythm section and ..of course.. that bluesy, soulful voice that cuts deep and carries you through the journey that is “Groove Me Baby.” (Plus, I absolutely love the callback to her former boss, Albert King, in Lady J's oh so tasty cover of “Born Under a Bad Sign!”) This is truly a fantastic collection of music.

At Last (Live) - This classic was recorded live at the mega entertainment venue, The Factory in Chesterfield, MO, for a wedding commercial. I’m a huge fan of Etta James and have always enjoyed performing this song. I add my own flare at the end that is very theatrical during live performances with a slinging boa, in a sense - taming my mate.

At Last (Live)

This is an instrumental background track of the song with the vocal harmonies for singers & musicians to jam to. It also makes for a great track for DJs to rap over & listeners to mindlessly "Groove” to.

Mean Stud Lover's Blues (Background)

This song was composed by my mother, Loyce Pickens Huston, which I later updated. When she performed this sassy blues number, the audience would go wild. She'd call an unsuspecting male to sit in a chair on stage & naughtily serenade him with her robust body. The last word in the original title began with a “P”. While joking around with my longtime friend Al Caldwell who had recorded the demo with her, I thought it best to use this made-up word “Gizzay” instead.

500 Pounds Good Gizzay

The album titled single was released in 2022 at the iconic BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups nightclub in St. Louis, MO. It's a seductive ode to romance at its highest peak of self-indulgence & forever longing for the partner that makes you feel so good inside it makes you wanna shout!

Groove Me Baby

This true love story of heartache to redemption was originally released in 2019 on the St. Louis Blues Society’s “18 in 18” compilation CD. It’s a Blues ballad with layers of Jazz and an up-tempo Funk interlude performed with the 18-piece, Jazz Edge Orchestra. The song placed as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition.

Hide-Away (Remix)

This won the 2021 National Blues Museum’s Pandemic Blues Songwriting Competition. The song speaks to the human spirit and helps to release the frustration through song and dance. The upbeat groove and hook makes listeners feel like partying the night away and ready to embrace our new normal.

Corona You Make Me Sick! (Remix)

Having toured & more with the originator of this song, Albert King, it was one of my favorites that I never tired of playing night after night on the road. I added a few extra touches of my soul to this classic hit record. King influenced a few other tracks on this album as well.

Born Under a Bad Sign

This ballad is a true love story about falling in-love with a married man. I thought he was going to end the marriage, but he was just stringing me along. It was a very painful experience & a life lesson I never repeated. In 1984 while living in Washington, DC, the song was recorded on reel-to-reel with the DC Unlimited Band, other layers were added in Las Vegas years later. The reels were recently digitized & we re-recorded the vocals in 2023!

Tearing Me Apart

This is in tribute to my mother Loyce Pickens Huston (R.I.P.). She recorded it in 1963 with her manager/pianist/songwriter Chick Finney, which landed on the charts in St. Louis, MO. Finney is an alumni of Miles Davis.

I Want a Man Like That

This has some naughtiness in it if you pay close attention to the lyrics. My background singers felt a certain kind of way about a few of the lines which really tickled me. The lyrics were written with my former manager in Las Vegas, Z. Lipsky.

I added extended bars to the traditional blues progression with some smoking horns while yearning for my man to Call Me!

Your Call

In memory of my Las Vegas band’s drummer, Jimmy Prima, nephew of Jazz Trumpeter, Louis Prima. A native of New Orleans, he was warming up playing a beat that inspired me to write this song. I partnered with my former manager, Z. Lipsky, on these voodoo enthused lyrics.
