This song was inspired by "The Cold Heart" (German: Das kalte Herz), a fairy tale written by Wilhelm Hauff. It was published in 1827 in a collection of fairy tales that take place within the narrative of The Spessart Inn.
Although written almost 200 years ago, the described conflicts of mankind are still up-to-date, maybe even more than before. Preferring status und prosperity over humanity is something which has become socially acceptable.

“Our daughter said the most fascinating sentence for turning the room light off, which was “turn the dark on”. I absolutely loved this perspective and had to include the line as a lyric; this spark inspired the song and its direction. Echoing those late night wonderings when the mind is overactive I use insomnia as an acronym in the chorus to ponder if people are asleep in life and need to be inspired to wake up and really live? My hope in both the music and lyrics is to capture the restlessness, fatigue and high energy of insomnia.”

I wrote this poem for those who are needlessly suffering in the world but especially for the  women, children and the elderly who can be so vulnerable.  I feel that whatever I can do will help others even though I feel helpless and sometimes hopeless. Music makes it bearable.

RiZLiX is a force for the good in the world. His music soothes and is powerful at the same time. Please listen. Then give what you can locally or on a global scale to an organization of integrity. Most of all, be kind and have compassion to those who need it. We're all going through something these days. Remember that.

This song began with Stephen, who recorded it on his acoustic guitar and bass to a programmed drum track a few months ago. We were all thrilled to work on it, even though it sat in BandLab as a project for almost a month before Stephen separated the tracks, thus allowing us to trickle in our parts. JJ was first to jump on it, because he could before the tracks were separated, as his part is completely his idea. He added the organ that really set up the entire sound of both dominant sections of the song. 

  Ken was first up to the project once the tracks were replaceable, making the wild, driving beat his own. Inspired by both JPJ and Michael Ivins, Josh laid down his bass line, trying to match Ken's energy. Last, but not least, Mark jumped in with the rumbling timpani. He also added the flavorful harmonica, and unique jaw harp you hear throughout, as well. Finally, Mark added the hambone percussion at the end of the song, too, which we all consider a treat.

Stephen wasn't done with it, though, and still had some magic to sprinkle. He went in and added the howling electric guitar you hear prominently in the second main section. Also, he added the tempting intro with his acoustic guitar and electric mandolin that looks like a Telecaster guitar. 

  Once it was in the bag, we thought it appropriate for our master mixer Stephen to put it to bed, which he did in his always expert manner. Mark did help with the production, though, as he's very good with editing and spotting mistakes that need to be corrected.

ok a lot of teamwork to make the dream work, as always for Eclectic Collective. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

I Hope Everything Falls Apart

It seems that each season has its own "perfume of mystery".  In a typical Texas panhandle spring, it is Lilac and Russian Olive that perfume the air.  In the deep South, Magnolias are hypnotically fragrant.  In summer it is the fresh, petrichor air after a rainstorm, or a newly-mown field of hay.  In the fall there is a pungency of fallen leaves as they are raked into piles, and as the days grow cooler, smoke from a fireplace during an evening walk. It is an odor that grows stronger and crisper as winter sets in and the sweet scent of pine with the setting up of Christmas trees.  Dan wanted to capture this "perfume of mystery" with his unique composing and keyboard skills and invited me to come along. Thank you my friend for inviting me. “Yūgen Flame” drifts through cedar fog at a hidden Shinto sanctuary — a sacred place where breath, sound, and stillness converge.

This piece is a quiet ritual of reverence: breath-driven whispers, shrine-chorus hums, the haunting shimmer of the shō, and one-stroke taiko pulses echoing through bamboo wind and gravel footsteps. No lyrics. No performance. Only the hush that exists between presence and disappearance — the mystery of yūgen made audible.
