Exclusive: DJ Blasy - Radici Aeree

From the banks of the Arno river it's Florentine artist Filippo Blasi Foglietti, better known under his artist moniker DJ Blasy, who kickstarts Planet Sundae's 2021 with a (fictional) musical description of the future as his new EP Quantasoma is set in a world where the ice caps have melted and the sea level has risen. Blasi's six tricker portrays this situation and the emerging new surrounding due to the change the world underwent. So with each track the listener can literally dive into this (brave) new world and the setting explore it's fascinating flora and fauna in a musical way and imagine this natural partly dystopian outlook on the future. Radici Aeree, the B1 one of the EP, takes one to a place where the its unclear or indifferent what or who communicates with each other but the way how – bleeping chords seemto interact in an own language with each other adding a sci-fy-esque note to the yet seemingly organic track – possibly it's nature or humans who have adapted to their new surrounding who interact. However, it could be anything and anyone. But it definitely has the DNA of music – that's in the 'aeree'.

Sound has long been known to have deep therapeutic qualities. The main element of healing music is the root sound. The focus on one note brings the listener to the present. It is grounding and can induce a higher state of consciousness. Combine that with dancing and you are now moving the energy, freeing your body from stuck emotions.

This is the purpose of this album. These are the tools for the modern shaman.

This second release, an 8-track compilation of French talents, is a manifest of their style, showcasing all the facets of their universe through digital & physical media. Deep and boundary-pushing, full of contrast and almost exotic at times, This Doesn't Look Like A Good Place To Picnic is the perfect place to let your mind wander without supervision.

On top of the digital release, a limited-edition cassette tape is available, containing a few random seeds to invite a slice of forest into our homes. Simply plant them in soil to discover what they become, all the while listening to our curation of forward-thinking dance music.

⅓ of Le Marais, Saint-Etienne-based Jacques Satre starts off softly with his signature trancey downtempo in "Jason's Dream", giving glimpses of a bucolic afternoon rave.
As the sun starts to hide behind the canopy and the light begins to dim, La Forge core member Lebird brings out his powerful bass and hybrid IDM-jungle in "Nebula Clock", for a dive into darker waters.
The night is now into motion and label head Solma unleashes heavy kicks, dotted vocals and hyper-acid basslines with "Kylie's Lost In Tokyo", followed by its emotional and poetic counterpart "Nights With Her" courtesy of Pomme Sanguine head honcho Selected Dream Memories (fka Sire).
Label head Fluid Matter adds a darker tone to this series of bangers with Have You Seen My Friends?, a breakbeat-infused UK techno missile, whereas a step into glitch territory is taken by Mohammed Vicente with "More FX"’s percussive melodies and weird synths.
Polaar and Le French Work's SNKLS responds with his very own brand of glitchy high-speed electronics as he remixes Solma and Fluid Matter's "Boomerang" (out on Human Disease Network) and drives the night into a frenzy.
"The Worst Of Them" closes the compilation as Lyon-based A/V trio Visages lower the tempo and the madness with their deep and introspective downtempo composition.

New friends from Belgrade - Cosmic G and Laars with a collaboration novella 'Trancia', Maksim Polivanov from Motorama under the moniker Neporyadok and his 'Jewel Box' and one of the most productive musicians in St. Petersburg — Rambal Cochet, also known as Volta Cab. FINA Records co-owner — Corbi, interesting duo who released their first vinyl on Gated Recordings this year — not even noticed, and the last but not the least is superb selector from Kazan, Tatarstan — Enfant.

In late 2016, Thomas Gandey and Danny McLewin — known from the popular disco-influenced electronic music collective Psychemagik — emerged from their studio in London, England, claiming to have produced an extended musical arrangement, both entitled, and containing the sounds of, shakuhachi. Furthermore, they insisted, for the purposes of this production, and a further album of related arrangements to be released subsequently in conjunction with the successful German record label Kompakt, they should be referred to henceforth as Ghost Vision.

Shortly thereafter, the audio recordings described by Gandey and McLewin came into the possession of noted Los Angeles degenerate, DJ and nymphomaniac* (citation needed) Dirty Dave, who was quick to relay the hallucinatory qualities of the duo’s productions to fellow DJ and trusted hallucinogenic expert Paramida, of esteemed German musical imprint Love On The Rocks.

Paramida, recognising the innate quality of the sounds presented to her, decided that such recordings warranted immediate release through her audio distribution channel, and not without remixes. Quite without thinking of the Eastern origins of the instrument which had given the recording certain sonic distinguishments, and of course, its title, she enlisted the help of two musicians named Alex — one from Tokyo, and one from Kyoto.

Both Alex From Tokyo — the acclaimed producer of electronic sounds known for his prior releases on popular German label Innervisions — and his counterpart, Alex from Kyoto, better known as Al Kassian, rising Tamagotchi on Paramida’s Love On The Rocks imprint and his own label, Planet Sundae — turned in striking reinterpretations of Gandey and McLewin’s composition. It was reported that upon their arrival and first listening at Love On The Rocks headquarters, wild dancing broke out almost immediately and did not stop for 36 hours.

The resulting package of stereo recordings was finally released for public broadcast and manipulation by disc jockeys in early 2018, to much rejoicing, from England to LA, throughout Europe and Japan. It marked the first release for the label in their fourth year of operation, during which there is much more to come.

As we continue the descent down the 3000’s of the Snowdonia mountain range. 3000.6 is Glyder Fawr at 3279 ft (999m) and is the higher of the two Glyderau summits which is gained up a scree slope above Glyn Y Can (Lake of the Dogs). The exact highest point between Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach is a matter of debate and they are only a few metres apart so you might well want to touch them both and join the rucksack club as we wiggle down the mountain side. Artwork is made with love for the local feral mountain goat population of Snowdon Massif, who were recently touted as bate by an idiotic hunting firm from across the borders by offering ‘the chance to shoot goats in the Welsh mountains for £1000’ yes you are reading this correctly… Protect our goats, protects our mountains, let this nomadic ancient breed run free and let our music take you to the niPPiest of peaks. 222 Units only. Oranienstrasse starts off with a very atmospheric Detroit vibe in the title track followed by the euphoric dub vibes in Nanne. Joining Shelter on Wax we have https://soundcloud.com/moffandtarkin and long time label friend https://soundcloud.com/gnork have a go on the remixes each with their own rendition of Oranienstrasse. The different approaches make for an interesting combination of sounds on the same EP which should give most electronic music fans something to chew on. We first spotted Shelter on Wax some years ago when he released the track ‘Untitled (Pbar Cut)’ which first appeared on a rare dubplate which ended up getting released on Idealistmusic in 2018.
