In the native tongue of the South American tribe Mapuche, there exists the word ‘MENOKO’. Deep within the Andean Forests there are sacred places, springs of purity known as Menokos. Hidden and untouched by man or animal, they are whispered, home of virgin water. Womb of the natural cycle from which plants and herbs of extraordinary medicinal abilities are nurtured.

@BarrioLindo feels a strong bond to the native tribes of his Argentinian home. Ancestral cultures are of great importance, providing a wealth of inspiration. An instrument maker by trade, using his bare hands he constructs many ethnical instruments like Andean flutes, African harps, string instruments from India and so on. This fascination with indigenous sounds is reflected within his music and themes with the use of samples and tribal instrumentation. While understanding his work is far from that of the native cultures, he finds ways to incorporate these influences through fusions of sounds. Drawing a parallel, worlds both old and new align.

'MENOKO' comes on limited purple double vinyl as well as a limited handmade and handpainted purple cassette edition.

01 ) BD1982 - Sunshine
興味深い楽曲を提供し続けている元ニューヨーカー, 現在横浜在住の BD1982 は Diskotopia と Seclusiasisにてリリースを経て、国際的にベース・ミュージック・シーンで大活躍中です。この曲は 80年代の警察サスペンスドラマや、ニュース番組のオープニング曲、ブレイク・ダンス・ギャングなどからの発端となっています。炎天下の街中でアンダーグラウンドなクラブに行く途中のようなサウンドトラックです。

02 ) Visionist - Tropics
雑誌 Wire にジャーナリストとして勤める Visionist の Joe Muggs。英国で大人気となった彼の曲 Mr.67 は 808 cowbell サウンドのメランコリーさと、不安を引き起こすサブ・ベースとを組み合わせた賛歌と Wire で表現してます。この曲は自身の以前の曲をよりいっそう発展していったものとなり、部族同士衝突を起こした場合によるエナジーを表現した作風です。Diskotopia、LeftBlankなどからリリースし、Oneman のレーベル 502 からもリリース予定です。

03 ) Savage - I Want It All (BD1982 Refix)
ニューヨーク対ピッツバーグ。 BD1982 不朽の Refix。1960年代半ばの R&Bと90年代初頭ブリストル・サウンドを同時に再現したものになります。スコセッシ監督のアンチヒーローが眩しいぐらい照らされた道路をよろめきながら朝8時にニューヨークのディスコから出てくるイメージです。

04) RLP - Kreep
RLP は Cosmopolyphonic のキッチンで R&B 色に染められたギャラクシー・ファンクを調理されたようです。英国のアーティスト、Joker、 Hudson Mohawke のような特質を持つ東京アーティスト、 ネオン・ベースが彼特有の日本人風味に味付けされました。家でも、クラブでも、スペースシップの中でも聴いてみてください。

05) Optimum - Ghost House
Ikonikaと共にHum + Buzz を設立。Planet Mu と Night Slugs からもリリースしています。このロンドンのアーティストが目指したのは深く、エレクトロからの恩恵からアルペジオ奏法を使用した手法で、幽霊が乗っているジェットコースターのように音が巡ります。遊びにいく前や長く遊び疲れた後にゆっくりする時にも最適な曲です。

06) Shy One - 40,000
ロンドンベースの女性プロデューサーShy OneはScratcha DVA の DVA Musicレーベルから今年始めデビューEP, Decaffeinated Loveをリリースし先行きよいスタートをきりました。誰もが圧倒した VisionistのRock The Flock のリミックスをはじめ、この曲はテンポを緩め、その分バイブ感をアップしドラム・プログラムのノック感とシンセの音が心地よく仕上がりました。

07) A Taut Line - Clouds At Night
特にこの曲は Model 500 と Tortoise からひらめいたものであり、レーベルトップの A Taut Line はデトロイト・テクノと幼少期の科学ビデオなどから光り輝く未来の景色を思い描いて作りました。しかしそれは夢のまた夢の中でしか起こらない特別な場所だったのです.

08) Hong Kong in the 60s - You Can Take A Heart (Diskotopia Dub)
2010年に Ghost Box から出した Hong Kong In The 60s のシングルはとても好評でした。その上今年の彼らのデビューアルバム  "My Fantoms" も好評でした。 BD1982 & A Taut Line によるこのYou Can Take A Heart リミックスは HK60 独特のフワフワと軽いブラジリアンスタイルポップとのコントラストを強めるべく, BD1982 の急低下するベースと A Taut Line の催眠剤としてのパーカッションで多様な方法を効果的に組み合わせて Diskotopia Dub が完成しました。

09) Awa - She Sea
若い日本人プロデューサーでジャズ・ギタリストの Awa は Floating Points やToro Y Moiなどのファンが飛びつきそうなサウンド感をもっています。 She Sea はまるで秋にペントハウスの自宅から映り行くシティを見下ろすような、午前1時の高速道路を車で駆けていく高揚感が味わえます。

10) Greeen Linez - Sallot Ski
Greeen Linez は Matt Lyne (aka A Taut Line) と Chris Greenberg ( Hong Kong in the 60s の3人のメンバーの1人 ) からなるユニットです。彼らがケンブリッジでの幼少期時代、初めて興奮し刺激された80年代後半と90年代初頭のスタイルを彷彿させるような音色です。Sallot Ski は爽快感あふれる80年代後半、90年代初頭の R&B の夢が詰まっており、ゲレンデのトップからクラブまで往復をお共します。外では雪がキラリと光り, 室内ではカクテルグラスの氷がカラリと鳴り響いています。

11) Bun / Fumitake Tamura - Ri
Ri は多少ぼんやりとしたかんじだが, つい頭を前後に動かしながらじわじわと酔わさせてくる日本人プロデューサー、Bun aka Fumitake Tamura の曲です. 90年の Mo' Wax リリースのような, クラシックな J.Dilla のプロダクションや今で言う Flying Lotus, ダヴの感覚がジャズコードとうまく相互作用され、至る所にボーカルカッツと喚起されられてきたスタイルが充満しています。これらが今もっとも日本でクリエイティブなプロデューサーと言われている彼を支えています。

12) LDFD - Wumpa Fruit
テキサスの話題の若手プロデューサー LDFD は最近 Daedalus の Magical Properties レーベルから EPをリリースしました。Wumpa Fruitは3次元のボーカル・サンプルと活気あるビートで、シカゴからコンゴまでのダンスフロアを非常に盛り上げてくれるような内容になりました。

13) DJ Maar - Acid Clapperz (Diskotopia Dub)
A Taut Line と BD1982 が DJ Maar (Dex Pistols) の人気の曲 Acid Clapperz (House Clapperz mix CD 内の彼の曲)  を地下にあるフロアへと持ち込んだ曲です。ジャッキングされたグルーブが差し込まれ、ちょうどぴったりとフィットするパーカッションや有頂天な気分になるブレイクダウン、 それらが Robin S の 'Show Me Love'、LFO の 'Fuse' と過ぎ去っていったレイブの日々を思い返してしまいます。

14) Greeen Linez - Feel The Pressure (The Phantom Remix)
ポーランド・プロデューサー The Phantom のリリースは Senseless と Silverback から出ています。Greeen Linez のアンセム的なこの曲はダークなベースラインで、深夜のひそひそ声で留守番電話で注意を促しているかのようなボーカルに変わっています。モダン・ダンスフロア向きな仕上がりです。

15) Lamin Fofana - Nia Long
Sinden の Grizzly レーベルから出ている Jay Weed をリミックスした彼が記憶に新しいが、この Lamin Fofana の曲は快活で Dutty Artz レーベルで過ごした素敵な時間へと捧げています。たくさんのシンセレイヤーとメタリックベースが主なこの曲のポイントとなって曲をまとめ上げてくれています。

16) 80kidz - Miss Mars (Diskotopia Dub)
A Taut Line と BD1982 が Kitsune Maison に入っている 80Kidz の曲 Miss Mars をDiskotopia Dub 仕様にしてみました。 クラシック・ハウスのリズム、サブ・ベース・プレッシャー、シェフィールドの倉庫のイベントでのシンセ, 推進した力でできたこの曲は活力のあるパーティでより楽しませてくれるでしょう。

17) Greeen Linez - Feel The Pressure (Nites Remix)
東京の Cuz Me Pain レーベルのメンバーで有名ブログ Altered Zones と 20 Jazz Funk Greatsのお気に入り Nites (aka Jesse Ruins) がこの Greeen Linez のダンスパーティー/ワークアウト・アンセムを逆に深夜眠りに入るイメージでリミックスしました。

18) BD1982 - VHS Nite (Starkey Remix)
Ninja Tune, Planet Mu, Werk Discs, Civl Music などでリリースしている米国プロデューサー Starkey はもう充分にダブステップ、ベース・ミュージック・シーンにて大きく名が知れ渡ってきました。BD1982 の VHS Nite をリミックスし、エモ・ダブステップと斬新な切り口でアプローチしています。
