Alpine Decline appeared in East Los Angeles in 2010. Within a year the duo recorded three albums - including "Visualizations" and "Disappearance" with modular-psych guru M Geddes Gengras - before promptly spiriting off to China. One year after landing on the distant outskirts of Beijing, the band recorded "Night of the Long Knives" with Yang Haisong of the seminal Chinese underground band P.K. 14. 

Alpine Decline albums are the kind you listen to compulsively, perhaps even excessively. With blasting guitars and drums, surrounded by drones and a spiderweb of noise, Whether evoking dizzying high altitude peaks or chaotic dystopian landscapes, Jonathan Zeitlin and Pauline Mu always seem to be writing with such honesty and freedom that the music never feels cold or artificial, but is always close and real. 

Their new album GO BIG SHADOW CITY is their most coherent and unique album, with everything heightened (or maybe, as the song dictates, deepened). The rock band sounds rawer, the swirling tape loops and atmospheric synths more mythic, the melodies and lyrics more confident in their vision. GO BIG SHADOW CITY 's 11 songs lodge in your skull when consumed individually, or take over your mind completely when consumed together in one big serving of 12" vinyl.

Did Alpine Decline’s latest album, INK, emerge from the pollution clouds of Beijing or from the bottom of a murky sea? The opening track, “The Cuttlefish and Its Ink,” suggests the latter, imploring you with a simple descending theme that is positively swallowed by a warm black blast of synthesizers fed through a chain of tape echoes. 
On this, their 6th album, Alpine Decline have ditched the drums and guitars and brought forward dense layers of wheezing oscillators, decaying tapes wowwing and fluttering, and filtered washes of white noise — sounds that on previous records served as a landscape around a ripping rock band now stretching out and rattling the windows with wider frequencies. INK is the culmination of a series of synthesizer/tape machine/vocal performances in 2013 at Xiaoping in the heart of the PRC capitol metropolis.
Recorded live in the band’s home on the eastern outskirts of the city, INK is like looking (or rather, listening) to Alpine Decline through a prism that has split their elements apart. In places we are lost in the toxic fog, and suddenly the band’s deep songwriting emerges in a listing melody and a precise lyric — no more so than on the album’s centerpiece “Keep Saying It’s OK” — a ten minute skip along an irregular heartbeat with JZ’s imploring vocals sweeping down from above.
This seven track, 43-minute long vinyl-only release stands apart from Alpine Decline’s previous albums in its tone and character (not to mention its instrumentation), but present still is the sense that you are not listening to a band but entering a different world — or at the very least leaving this one.

They say the devil has many faces and that may be true but who would have thought that all these faces could be so attractive…. so captivating and so strange. For this collection of different versions of tracks from the critically acclaimed ‘Circus’ album (2011), Black Devil Disco Club has persuaded others to reveal their devilish personas whilst also revealing more of his own. 

And what a mysterious collection of music we have….from NZCA/LINES synthetic romance, Junior Claristidge’ futuristic space jams, Ed DMX’s cold wave chills, Leo Zero’s Star Wars disco, Eckman’s Mozart in Orbit opus, Sauvage’s amazing freak folk hoedown and of course the Devil’s own dubs, which strip away the original layers to reveal a glittering diamond skeleton. Including “Stay In Dub” a pure 6-minute long journey into the devil's world, a psychedelic bridge between past and future.

Since his re emergence in 2006, Black Devil has proven himself to be a master of electronic music, ‘the Ennio Morricone of disco’. His music has been described as being like ‘Joy Division produced by Giorgio Moroder’ and it came as no surprise when so many legendary figures agreed to work with him on the original ‘Circus’ album. You’ll find some of them like Nancy Sinatra, The Horrors, Afrika Bambaata and Jon Spencer on this album….lost in the ‘Magnetic Circus’.
