Exclusive Premiere: TRESPASSER - Halos

This mix was recorded in 2010 for the treasure trove which is promomixes.com. 
Promomixes 006 features my take on the early Belgian New Beat / EBM wave which hit Belgium between 1985 and .... well, depending on who you talk to it lasted maximum four or five years before it turned itself into a commercial, money-infested parody. But during those early years it was one of the most invigorating and creative moments in Belgium's musical nightlife history. The eclectic blend between 80ies New / Cold Wave, Electronic Body Music and fresh, homemade New Beat tunes was unique and happened only in Belgium. A strange country, indeed....

This mix was made with Antwerp's (in)famous Prestige club in mind. While I always found Prestige's music policy to be a bit on the safe side the place was important to me: it was the first real club I experienced from the inside. It definitely did awake something in me: a fascination for dance music, nightlife, and the intense hunger to be a part of it all.

The selection in this mix is made from a very personal perspective: my imaginary, perfect Prestige. Older (Belgian?) listeners will hear a lot of 'classics', newer listeners can go about and discover. Enjoy.

Biography:
Alexey Volkov has steadfastly pushed his hard-edged style of modern, industrial-rooted music since first appearing on The Hacker’s Zone label in 2009. Quickly picked up by the French EBM and techno legend Terence Fixmer for his Planete Rouge imprint, the artists are cut from similar cloth, both having found their way from the industrial and techno ideas of their early output, inspired by DAF, Downwards, and many others, to a more forceful interpretation of similar influences not fettered by the mid-2000s minimal vogue or the excesses of electro-clash. Also similarly, both artists have gradually risen as popular interests returned to those they remained behind. Volkov in particular made dramatic progress in the last few years, rising to worldwide notice on O’connor’s, Ruskin’s, Mendez’s Jealous God imprint after a string of well-received EPs for Fixmer’s label. His recent work is his most assured, experimental, and probing, bringing his industrial and EBM influences to the fore more than ever while probing the formal restraints of techno itself. Now a mature artist making stunning, contemporary music which is the best in his career, Alexey Volkov channels both modern and classic influences into a combination that demands notice for the foreseeable future.

Following on from the deranged machine mulch of the Cru Servers we proudly announce the second record on the label to emerge from our native south side of Glasgow. Lo Kindre is the solo project of Irish/Luxembourgish bedroom producer, amateur footballer and award-winning bartender Daniel Magee. Crawling out from the undergrowth at the speed of a snail with dreadlocks this six track EP builds upon his previous venture for Optimo Music and manages to enchant in many of the same ways. Chlorophytum ticks all of the right boxes, sitting somewhere between a budding sci-fi homage, drum machine escapism and a fascination with the motorik styles of West Germany and the wider On-U continuum. Lo Kindre's sound has recently developed by way of countless hours spent twiddling with delay units alongside vintage Italian football commentary and murky casks of Tennents. It culminates here in the following six tracks. The seventh 12th Isle now ecstatically morphs from our galaxy into yours.

Exclusive The Golden Filter 'Cut My Hair'

It was at Sonar 2018 when a track simply named 'Talk Talk Talk' made people hush and entirely focus on what's most important for artists – their music. And let's call things what they are, The Golden Filter scored a hit. 'Talk Talk Talk' was released a few weeks later – a track that was originally meant to be the title track for the duo's EP 'Dislocation' but due to the buzz it had caused had to be released earlier. Now that the Barcelonian summer is almost as far away as it is close and the hype around 'Talk Talk Talk' decreased the time has finally come to be introduced to Penelope Trappes' and Stephen Hindman' aforementioned five tracker 'Dislocation'. With the latter EP the current Londoners produced a sweet little masterpiece, one track more refined than another, and each representing The Golden Filter's unique style and musical approach. It's a distinctive rawness in the music, a touch of New Wave, a heavy yet so easily flowing bass line and partly aspiring vocals with a unique sound from a stellar singer. All these musical traits are featured in The Golden Filter's B2 track of the EP 'Cut My Hair'. Subtle raw vocals echoing from the back to the foreground over a progressing synth-melody that unfolds its full power as the end of the track comes closer. 'Cut My Hair' depicts the duo's preference for unfinished sounding sound-designs that are perfect in their imperfection and therefore perfect in its entirety.

The Golden Filter's EP 'Dislocation' was released on January 18th, 2019 on 4GN3S.
