He has released music on Theo Parrish’s esteemed @soundsignature , Belgium’s @meakusma as well as Japan’s @freedom school. I sat down with Julion to talk about his roots in punk bands , he highlights his favorite local Detroit producers and djs who are formidable but may not be on people’s radars + more . As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. First up we have Tama Sumo and Lakuti, both residents at Berlin's Panorama Bar, the house-focused room upstairs at Berghain. Panorama Bar has played host to thousands—if not millions—of people's most formative dance floor experiences, with an unparalleled vibe, near-perfect sound and window blinds that have taken their own place in dance music mythology. 

The duo's mix highlights the style that Tama Sumo and Lakuti have brought to the club and represents its anything-goes energy, mixing tracks from iconoclasts like Hieroglyphic Being (including one of his best-ever tracks) in with old-school favorites from Reel By Real, Larry Heard and even Ministry, moving from house to industrial to disco without batting an eyelid. Tama Sumo and Lakuti's loose but impeccable flow ties together house music history with a deep love and knowledge of all genres and, perhaps most importantly, the desire and know-how to just make people dance. We couldn't be more thrilled to feature Tama Sumo and Lakuti for the first mix in our birthday series, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Alongside her DJ career, Lakuti has been instrumental in fostering creativity within the industry. In 2001, she co-founded the Uzuri Recordings label, which has since become a respected platform for groundbreaking artists. Through Uzuri, Lakuti has championed innovative sounds, pushing boundaries and introducing emerging talents to a global audience.‍

Also known for her activism and commitment to social change, using her platform to address issues of diversity, equality, and inclusivity within the music industry, Lakuti's dedication to her craft extends beyond the DJ booth and record label. With a tireless efforts to create more inclusive spaces have inspired and empowered countless individuals, Lakuti is blossoming into a true icon in the industry.

Embrace the limitlessness of Universal Love with this heady, affectionate mix from NYC's own Barbie Bertisch and Paul Raffaele of Love Injection. 

Love Injection is a New York-based music and culture fanzine in print since 2015. Co-founded by Barbie Bertisch and Paul Raffaele, it quickly established itself as a critical platform for celebrating the constantly shifting cultures of dance music in New York. In addition to the print zine, the two host a weekly radio show with the same name on Brooklyn’s The Lot Radio Saturdays from 10am-12pm EST. Love Injection has produced nightlife exhibits at MoMA PS1 (NY), White Columns Gallery (NY), The Music Center (LA), curated and hosted panels for Resident Advisor, and produced shows for radio stations like Dublab (LA) and WorldwideFM (London). 

Universal Love is a quarterly fundraising party with a growing community joined by the principles of social progress, good sound, uplifting music, and open minds. They play these parties end-to-end and try to challenge perceived norms of genre, tempo, technique (or lack thereof). 

Paul and Barbie also produce and host the New York Chapter of Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy’s co-educational Classic Album Sundays championing communal, active listening on world class hi-fi components. The New York sessions are currently held monthly at Nowadays in Brooklyn once per month.

Separately, Paul runs the Most Excellent Unlimited imprint and Barbie plays in Seedy Films, a punk band under Luke Jenner’s Manono Records imprint.
