The Eclectic Collective -- composition
 
This song started with JJ during one of his late Saturday night composition sessions, where he came up with the idea on his synth. He laid down some great organ and electric piano for the rest of us to play with. Ken was first up with his lively, raucous drums. He and I did our back and forth with the rhythm section until it was solid, though. Then Stephen laid in his dirty, rawkin' rhythm guitar to give it an extra foundation. Finally, Tez put the icing on the cake with his monster soloing throughout. 
  Of course, every great song needs a great producer. In this case, Tez did the honors in a very expert manner. We wanted Stephen (Texmex Shaman) on this, too, of course, but he is just now getting settled into his new abode, and was in flux while we were making this one. He'll be back with The Eclectic Collective next week, though. 
  This is an example of Eclectic Collective teamwork. It came together relatively quickly, which means we were all having fun doing it. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Hello…….. so many goodbyes in this life, maybe more than hellos? But who’s counting? Not me. I was pondering about some of my more difficult goodbyes. Some happy, some sad, some angry, some glad… (OK there’s the chorus you won’t hear.) Ha. Another short song. For whatever reason, there are some goodbyes that are more difficult to live with than others. This song is about a particularly difficult goodbye. I’ll leave it at that. What about some of your goodbyes? How did they go? As far as the instruments I played on this song, I must say I do like noodling about on the recorder and also on mandolin. They are both instruments I can play without thinking much about notes, or technical musical matters… Although probably obvious to any recorder or mandolin player is the fact that I do not really know the particulars of the instruments yet…. And maybe never will, but it is sure fun nonetheless. In outdoor news, I watched a large flock of house sparrows swarm into the lilac hedgerow. They were so noisy, all of them chattering. I wondered what they were up to. Later, I heard some chickadees scolding. So I went to look for a cat behind the lilacs. Didn't see one, so I sat in my old chair on the porch listening to the sparrows. The chickadees were still annoyed, so I stood up. There was a fledgling goshawk sitting right there on the top beam of the old swingset facing the lilacs. All the sparrows were now quiet. So I walked over, and at first the hawk didn't see me. I was really close. The hawk finally turned its head to see me, then quickly swooped up and over the fence. All the sparrows quietly made a break for it. Gather the goshawk couldn't get at the sparrows when they were in the lilacs. I do see feather piles here and there as I walk around. I found the dynamics of survival so telling while the hawk and sparrows played cat and mouse. And the parallels to humans were uncanny. Thanks for dropping by, Mark

This is new take on a song that Rodolfo and I first worked on 4 years ago. He had always imagined it with fine saxophone and great backing harmonies and now that Continental Collision has a wonderful pool of talent to draw on, that has become a reality, thanks to Ce Mastro and Georg Boehme's beautiful contributions.
The song has been given so much more feeling and emotion.
