Since making the move to London from his home of Cornwall a couple of years back Matthew Oliver aka Goddam Nobody has done some serious growing. Whether that was forced by the sink or swim nature of living in the UK’s capital or not we don’t know but it has sure drawn out of him his best set of songs yet and once again Super Fan will be releasing the results this February. 

While 2015’s Stranger Daze EP was a bold step from his comfortable lo-fi bedroom world to hi-fi, the Dead Beat EP marks another huge step on for Oliver. The shy but charming vocals of early recordings now replaced with a confident delivery that demands your attention. Layers of echo chamber BV’s tower over a tight vibrato jangle adding an eerie cloud of disappointment to Oliver’s determined vocal. It’s six songs itch with the anxiety and isolation of trying to get by in the city while lead track ‘Dead Beat’ almost leans in to 90s baggy territory with it’s stonery hypnotic groove.

It’s an EP which borrows from the past while keeping one foot firmly in 2017. Unlike many psych revivalists it doesn’t hide in oceans of old analogue tape delay but embraces a clean hi-fidelty sound of today. Recorded by Benjamin Woods (Holiday Ghosts) and featuring members The Red Cords, Pastel Colours and The Golden Dregs, it may of been conceived in London but very much belongs to the excellent Falmouth scene.

The Dead Beat EP will be available in boxed cassette complete with download or as a bundle which includes a limited t-shirt of which only 20 are available worldwide. If you dig The Growlers, Ride, Teenage Fanclub, Brian Jonestown Massacre, a pint and smoke in a grey coastal town in 1969 this is a must!

It’s been two years since the release of Hideout’s debut album 'Rookie' Thrill Me Records, 2014), and in that time many things have changed for Rodriguez. Most tragically, the passing of his brother. 'So Many Hoops/So Little Time' deals with grief in different spectrums –– the album ranges both sonically & lyrically from whimsical space-pop to crushing acoustic vulnerability. There isn’t a singular concept or message, but the deeper you delve into Hideout’s world the more you feel nostalgia and a sense of loss.

Hideout began as a recording project. The majority of 'Rookie' was recorded while on the road with Cults. Rodriguez took advantage of the downtime by tracking songs in hotel rooms or at friends’ homes. Fast-forward to the forthcoming 'So Many Hoops. . .' –– mixed by Loren Humphrey (Nice As Fuck/Guards) @ Stockholm Syndrome Sound Studio in Bushwick, NY –– the recording process was far more linear than 'Rookie'. The album evolved predominantly at Rodriguez’s apartment while the surrounding turmoil of loss sunk in. Emotionally charged, he turned to the art of songwriting & storytelling to help navigate through the many answerless questions. Now a fully realized band, Hideout has been performing live with a rotating cast of New York musicians over the past year. It’s just the beginning.

So Many Hoops / So Little Time

That long-awaited (well, for me anyway) fourth Meursault album is finally on the fairly immediate horizon. It will be released on CD and vinyl on the 27th February, will be called I Will Kill Again, and Klopfgeist is the first single from it.

After a relatively big rock sound on 2012’s Something For the Weakened collapsed in on itself to be channelled into the tense, darkly enigmatic characters of Supermoon, before being in turn shrugged off like a chrysalis as the reborn Meursault emerged, this song feels as emblematic of the new album as any could be.

It’s got that classic Meursault turn of phrase, an elusive narrative and a vague sense of foreboding - all common aesthetic threads which pull the album together.

Neil himself says this about the song:
“Frank Sinatra died in Los Angeles on May 14th, 1998. His final words were "I’m losing”. 
The rest is just ghosts and metronomes.”

THE KUT release their new self titled four track picture disc EP as a limited release via their own Criminal Records on 22nd April 2017. THE KUT picture disc EP will be followed by an accompanying full digital release across all digital platforms including Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon.
