Since the release of the latest album Black Waltz, Avatar have had massive success all over the world. The singles Smells Like a Freakshow and Let it Burn peaked on #26 on US commercial rock radio charts, where they also stayed for several weeks well ahead of more established bands in the scene. This was followed by extensive and successful US tours.

📀 ABOUT THE TRACK: A powerful alternative grunge manifesto about feeling like life is “someone else’s game,” where the rules are imposed from the outside and the stake is your own soul. A raspy female vocal cuts through a thick wall of distorted guitars, and the lyrics balance between existential hopelessness and a desperately bright belief in love as the only way out. This is a wake‑up song: from realizing the meaninglessness of everyday “lotteries” to the decision to love in defiance of the darkness.  

🎸 SOUND: A raw, honest grunge sound in the spirit of 90s Seattle: heavy overdriven guitars with feedback, lively dynamic drums, and a driving bass that pushes the track forward. The verses are slower, introspective, half-whispered and strained, creating the feeling of a personal confession. The choruses are explosive and anthemic, with powerful belting vocals and a wide, wall-of-sound arrangement. There’s an expressive guitar solo with an emotional crash and noisy feedback that emphasizes the inner breakdown. The production is deliberately rough and “live,” with minimal polishing — like a real band recorded in a real room, not a sterile studio smoothing everything out.

David Draiman of Disturbed, and ex-Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo recently collaborated together to construct Device. The album takes strands from hard rock, industrial, and electronica, and as a result, Device's self-titled debut album for Warner Bros. Records is a focused, fierce, and fiery new machine.

It all started while the Grammy Award-nominated multiplatinum powerhouse Disturbed was on hiatus, Lenardo reached out to Draiman to collaborate on a song for the Underworld: Awakening soundtrack in late 2011. As soon as the singer heard the music, he was both intrigued and inspired. The duo then cut "Hunted" in Chicago. Even though the track didn't ultimately make the final soundtrack album due to circumstances beyond their control, Draiman urged that they hold on to it and continue writing music. Soon, they had an entire album's worth of material.

Upon finishing the record, Draiman enlisted Evanescence drummer Will Hunt and Dope and Rock of Ages guitarist Virus. Both Hunt and Virus jumped at the chance to be a part of this powerhouse trio. The three comprise the touring incarnation of Device.
