Multifaceted Spanish DJ/producer AFFKT has been a man on a mission for some years now. That mission of course, is to emit quality-strewn house and techno - regardless of whether that's through his own wares or through that of his label, Sincopat. In the case of fellow Spaniard Piek, it's most definitely mission complete, as the sometime Cecille and Paulatine producer delivers with stunning conviction for Sincopat on the WYWFM EP.
''What you Want from Me'' is the first of the two originals, a thoroughbred hark back to minimal, percussive planes that's reminiscent of the sub-genre's finest moments. The spiky vocals are playful yet menacing, chilled-out yet ominous and when matched with the gentle groove and anticipated melodies, they meld with the sort of assured manner that suggests this one will be a sure fire winner on the floor. Then, label boss AFFKT keeps
hold of the aforementioned melody, using it as the spine of his gentle, albeit more kick- prominent interpretation. Expert stuff.
The track Insorit introduces proceedings thanks to a weighty, watertight groove and a barrage of sultry vocals that will see it tie in with summer time madness. Drenched in reverb and heavy claps, it's a delightful battle weapon with which to get the party started. Cecille mainstay Marc Scholl then beefs up the original considerably, as he adds a forceful groove to the heady equation on his subtly titled 'Glory Hole' re-working.

Robin, your the first person to do 2 podcasts for us, and this is definitely your most eclectic to date. Please take us through some of the music youve included, the selections were perfect. 

First of all, it is as always a great honor to be able to do a podcast for Oleeva. For this one i’ve been digging quite a lot. I wanted to do a mix, that represents my latest sentiments on music. Besides the new findings, such as for example Japanese Ambient producer Hiroshi Yoshimura, who was one of the Pioneers of organic electronic music as we know it today, i included some pieces, that inspired me in my childhood. I tried to create a fluid composition of ambient and housy pieces which i enjoy and which inspire me at the moment.

2. Your currently sat on a bean bag in Laganini, Croatia, on your final night here, after playing 3 hours over the sunset, and an hour of table tennis before that! How was the set and how has your time here been?

I really had an incredible time in Laganini. The beautiful weather, the crystal clear sea and especially the welcoming warmth of the people and the communal spirit of this place makes it an experience i won’t forget. At the end of this day i played a really spontaneous set with Will from Kotu that had really relaxed and pure vibes and it turned out to be a great ending of my time here in Laganini.

3. We're biased, but we really think your recent Yao ep is your best yet, its so refreshing. How did the 3 tracks come to life, and talk us through their names please. 

Yao is a special EP for me, since it is the first original release of mine since i decided to be a full time producer and DJ in 2018. I started the EP when i came back from a trip to Japan with my brother. The memories and the spirit of the travel encouraged me to stick close to my roots for the upcoming releases when it comes to my productions. The names are as so often foreign words or coinages, inspired by words i know from different languages. In the case of this EP, „Kailo“ is an alteration of the Chinese word for „happy“, „Yao“ is a word that also appears in the track itself, which means „having“ in Chinese. Wulon is just something that came to my mind, when i wrote the track.

4. The boring old classic question.. whats next in the world of sam goku?

When i return from Croatia, i have some unfinished Projects on my desk, which i would like to work on and finish. I will be hopefully play some more gigs and at the end of this year i will look back on 2018 and decide what i want to do in the next year.

5. Not so boring question, what do you think life on earth will be like in 1000 years, will humans still be around?

This is a hard question indeed. Considering the recent tendencies, life in 1000 years will be nothing like we know it today. I expect humans to evolve further and find solutions for the harm they’ve caused to this planet and their own mindsets. I really think that the best way into the future could be for every human to listen more to their hearts and find their true passion in life. There is nothing wrong in following the latest trends, if that really is what feels right but i feel it is important not to try and pretend to be someone you are not. That could lead us all to a bright and optimistic future. On earth or anywhere else.

Langenberg has been busy releasing his distinctive brand of knowledgeable deepness for well over half a decade now. As co-founder of the Essen-based label Mild Pitch, the man otherwise knows as Max Heesen has been responsible for some sublime moments in house, both on his own label, and for imprints such as Liebe*Detail, Drumpoet Community and Poker Flat.

Here, Desseous Recordings get their hands on the sumptuous release The Finisher. Informed and influenced by the classic Detroit sound, Langenberg produces yet another exceptional transmission. The title track is a smooth like liquid gold, yet contains a dub-tinged techno edge reminiscent of Langenberg’s Ribn project with Manuel Tur. The soulful piano interplay is pure Detroit meets Essen, and combines to produce one of the year’s standout moments.

Next up is Wait State, a bouncing groove featuring Langenberg’s trademark crisp drums and percussion, and a fantastic revolutionary vocal sample.

Sun and Sorrow is on a more driving tip, but maintains a familiar minor key motor city deepness. Also present here as a digital bonus is Sun and Sorrow Dub, an essential rework and a dub-wise dancefloor excursion for the heads.

We need to tell you about “Shiftings”. It is a beautiful new album by Harald Björk.
We knew it had been germinating but timing is everything you know. When Harald gave us this album it simply lit the office up. Cocoon Recordings were right to be patient. It blew us away.
Haralds early ideas circled around since “The Sound Of The 17th Season” and then evolved into this brave music that belongs in the here and now, also representing the organic progression of the relationship between Harald and Cocoon Recordings. It is an intricate album about communication and soul and new mysteries. It is about sharing. And we want to share it with you. We hope it will embrace you as it did us and perhaps point some light to the end of this long murky tunnel. It is that good. We really hope you enjoy "Shiftings" by Harald Björk.
