BLK affect sonically encapsulates afterlives of feeling and emotion from the lens of a descendant of enslaved africans colonized in the so-called united states. the music connects to this h(is)tory and provokes a cacophony of sounds, some translatable, others still yet to be decoded. the purpose of this radio show is to conduct and share in an experience of Black excellence and experimentation primarily with analogue means (records and cassettes), and sound/field recordings for texture and context to emotions experienced while listening. 

the first mix in this series of mixes is called “shadow gratitude.affect”, a call to embracing our shadow-self. with intention and attention to grief and crisis in our dark (shadow) selves, this mix intends to lean into those feelings with gratitude transmuted through a pulse of joy and despair.

As many of us are currently confined at home in many places of the world, and while we keep in our minds and in our hearts those who have no choice but to be at risk from the ongoing worldwide pandemic, because they're doctors, nurses, cashiers, workers, homeless, incarcerated, or in any other precarious situation, we wanted to provide you with a daily podcast to use this time to reflect and organizing without talking about the pandemic itself -- there might be already enough about it.

The concept is very simple. Every day, we ask one person the same question: "what is for you a moment of true decolonization?" The answer can be a historial moment or something they witnessed; something heroic and grandiose, or rather discreet and mundane; a durable blow to the structures of colonialism or a short instant of liberation.

Big ups to David Kwan and Quadio!

Wrote this at work, and finished recording this right before COVID hit, then came the mixing process, as we were quarantined, THEN, George Floyd was murdered and protests around the world quickly followed showing that people were fed up of the ongoing injustice and blatant hatred shown amongst our people.

This was a song for an escape of my reality that serves someone else's dream by clocking in 40 hours a week doing something I don't love, but to maintain. An imaginative aspiration as a goal in use to escape the monotony of 40 hour weeks that we use to help stay afloat til we manifest everything we want outta life that it has to offer and mo'.

This song has nothing to do with the current events because again, I penned this number prior to said current events. There's so much more i can speak on but, I'd rather put that in the music and new writtens I've been working on as of late.

This song will officially conclude the #WhereFredBeenAt series. The show must go on, but the awareness, action will increase and change for the better will be made. PEACE.

RIP to the many, countless number of black lives that have been murdered for no reason by those engulfed in evil and hatred.
