For the Aztecs, Chalchiuhtlicue ("She of the Jade Skirt") was the water goddess, a personification of youthful beauty and ardor. She was represented as a river from which a prickly pear cactus laden with fruit grew, symbolizing the human heart.

Chalchiutlicue's association with both water and fertility is derived from the Aztecs' common association of the womb with water. This dual role gave her both life-giving and a life-ending role in Aztec mythology. In the Aztec creation myth of the Five Suns, Chalchiuhtlicue presided over the fourth sun, in her aspect as goddess of streams and standing water. This world was destroyed by a great flood and its people transformed into fish.

In her aquatic aspect, Chalchiutlicue was known as Acuecucyoticihuati, goddess of oceans, as well as the patron of women in labor.

The Conception of Space in Aztec Cosmology and Mythology 

A creation myth that illustrates the concept of the world divided in four quarters is the story of Cipactli, the original being, the primordial feminine sea monster that swam in the vastness of the waters. Two gods cut her body in two parts; they built the heavens with one part and the underworld with the other part. The heavens were fertilizing and giving, the underworld producing and receiving. To separate the two parts, the gods placed five posts, one at the center and the remaining four at each corner of the Earth. The intermediate part created by this separation was the world inhabited by humankind. Everything was grouped in accordance to the four cardinal points of the compass and the central direction of up and down. Therefore, the numbers four and five were extremely important and manifested as four quadrants and five directions. These four directions and corners of the Earth are religious symbols for the cardinal points. This myth is complemented by the myth of Ometecuhtli and Omecihuatl, the supreme divine couple who resided in Omeyocan, where they engendered four divinities: Xipe or the red Tezcatlipoca, the black Tezcatlipoca, Quetzalcoatl and Huitzilopochtli.

Rasi (@rasiz) is a producer and Dj based in Vancouver. He's quickly proving to be a rising star in the Deep House scene - making strides with his melodic, groovy productions.

His sound can be described as Earthy, Oriental, and Melodic. Instruments laced across bars of groove, and pads which take us to another dimension.

Rasi's mix will transport you, and it was the perfect choice for our milestone 150th mix.

The French Plastic Bamboo (@plasticbamboo) is dropping a unique mix of Balearic, early 90's French House, World and French Boogie with a guideline that is cheap synthesizer sounds. 

Before starting his Plastic Bamboo mixes series, he was part of the crew of les Les Yeux Orange (@les-yeux-orange). That was when he got back to France after spending 6 years in UK, Manchester, where he discovered the house and balearic scenes thanks to his roommate Patrick Ryder, who now works at Piccadilly Records and has just created his label Talking Drums (@talkingdrumsrecords). 
Until then, Camille was much more into the indie pop scene. During the years in England he toured and released tracks with his band May68 (@may68). They got a 12″, “The Prisoner”, published on Kitsuné (@kitsunemusique) and that was bridging the gap between pop and electronic music around 2010’s.
Nowadays, alongside his dj activity as Plastic Bamboo, Camille also produces music under the alias Alan Dente (@alan-dente-1). The Ep “Dark Nebula” has been released on Bordello A Parigi in 2016 and a few remixes since then in a sexy house/disco vein.
Time for this 716 mix that starts with a cover of Madonna's “La Isla Bonita” –  which used to be on my favorite album from her “True Blue” – by the Venezuelian born and Italian resident Lucia Montanari.
