THE TIME TRAVELER is a large-scale four-movement suite for advanced wind ensemble. The movements are EVERYWHEN (Overture), REMEMBRANCE (portraying the Past), ACCELERATION (the Present) and HERE AMONG THE STARS (the Future).  This performance is by the Cal State Fullerton Wind Symphony, under their director, Dustin Barr.

Dynamo is a work for wind ensemble, commissioned by Jason Fettig and the University of Michigan Symphony Band to commemorate the 90th birthday of their Director Emeritus, H. Robert Reynolds.  This performance is the world premiere.

TALES OF SCIENCE AND MAGIC is a four-movement suite for Wind Ensemble.  The first live performances are scheduled for next year (school year 2025/2026), so while we wait, I've posted the midi mockup here.  The four movements are 1) Sense of Wonder 2) City of Light 3) The Sorcerer 4) Next.  TOSAM is a tribute to the literature of the imagination, fantasy and science fiction.

ACCELERATION is the third movement of THE TIME TRAVELER (4-movement suite for Wind Ensemble). The four movements are an overture, and then one movement each for The Past, The Present and The Future.  ACCELERATION is the movement for The Present - an audio portrait of the fast-paced, ever-changing world that we live in.  It features a whole lot of hyperactive riffs flying around, and has some especially crazed work by the percussion section. This is a preliminary mockup of the third movement of my upcoming flute concerto. It all started out with me looking for something for the flute to do that was slightly different, maybe even a little bit out of character for the instrument.  The next question was - how come fanfares are always played by brass and percussion?? What  if I tried to do one on the flute??  As usual, one thing led to another, and the what came out was what you hear now.  I've come to think of it as a mini-symphony, or something like a tone poem - a journey through different landscapes, telling a story as we go.

It starts off in the style of a tradition march, but takes some fun twists and turns along the way, moving through some second line, pop, gumbo, New Orleans and other crazy sounds.

ACROSS THE DIVIDE is a work for wind ensemble.  Commissioned by H. Robert Reynolds and a 24-university consortium, it is based on the orchestral work CHORALE AND FIDDLE TUNE, which won the 2014 Pittsburgh Symphony Audience of the Future Composition Competition.  This performance is by the Baylor University Wind Ensemble from the 2018 ABA Convention.

DRAGON'S EGG is a 10-minute opus, telling the life story of a great mythical beast in seven inter-connected mini-movements.  The movements are DRAGON'S EGG, BOTH A SERPENT AND A BIRD, LEARNING TO FLY, FLAME-FIGHT, ANCIENT MAGIC, AWAKEN and THE DRAGON KING.  This is a midi realization, as this piece has not been premiered yet.

TO A LOST WORLD is a musical prayer, a proactive spiritual response to hard times. It is scored for wind ensemble, and this recording is by Scott Teeple and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Wind Ensemble. 
From my program notes:  When circumstances are dark without, it’s good to find light within.  Again and again, I find myself writing music as a way to comfort myself, to make myself feel better.  And it works.  Every time.  Music is redemptive and healing.  It speaks in a mysterious language that somehow communicates with the deepest parts of ourselves.
