Desert Fever, City Cold is the story of what I lived through on the way from Marrakech to Casablanca. The heat in Marrakech left me drenched in sweat, only to be thrown into freezing air on the train, where I caught a fever that hit me hard. By Sunday I was wandering the city for hours, trying to find a pharmacy, following maps that didn’t add up, streets closed and silent. It felt like a test, every step heavy, my body aching, my nose running, too weak to stand, too restless to lie down. At last I found a strange, spicy medicine that burned on my tongue but gave me relief. The song carries that whole journey—the fire of the desert, the chill of the train, the loneliness of searching in vain, and finally the spark of recovery, the will to rise again.
