If you’re on this profile, there’s a good chance you know my remix of Hatikwa’s “Lonely Forest.”
This track has always meant a lot to me.
I still love its atmosphere to this day, and I’m grateful to Hatikwa for letting me remix this song.
In spring 2020, due to historical circumstances, I suddenly had a lot of free time.
During a long walk through a beautiful, green forest, the idea came to me to reinterpret the “Lonely Forest” track.
I imagined an ultra-wide, three-dimensional, organic, and woody-sounding version.
Slower and more immersive, a version that would fully draw you into this beautiful universe and never let go.
That same day, I went into the studio and brought my inspiration to life. I managed to realize the idea exactly as I had imagined it. In the end, a ten-minute track was born.
Then the track just rotted away on my hard drive for almost four years.
I didn’t know where or how to use it. For my home label, Spin Twist Records, it was too slow, and to play it in DJ sets, the intro was way too long. People would have probably fallen asleep or thrown bottles.
Or tomatoes.
And let’s be honest: who listens to a ten-minute track these days?
Eventually, the project was forgotten, until Hatikwa reached out to me in mid-2024 and said he wanted to use the song as the intro for his new album.
I was surprised and thrilled and immediately excited to pick up this project again.
The album version on Hatikwa’s new release was shortened to seven minutes, but we will soon release the full ten-minute version.
