(Fairly tale continued from Witchtape #96)

It was now two weeks since the 9 year-old blond girl had arrived in the witch’s forest and so far the speed and ease of her transformation from human to witch was absolutely stunning.  Every day, the green-eyed little witch was teaching the blue-eyed little girl about the plants and animals of the forest, as well as her very first fun witch spell, making little floating lights at night.  So far the little girl had a very pleasant stay in the witch’s forest, but she was also a bit lucky that it was the time around the summer solstice, which is probably the easiest month of the year to walk around barefoot and spend the night in the open air.  On that day though, the long spell of fine weather came to an abrupt end as dark clouds amassed above the woods and the rumbling sound of thunder came closer and closer.  As witches live in the open air, they don’t have much shelter for the rain.  A small rain shower is easy to weather as the witches go and stand under a big beech tree.  But the little witch saw immediately that this thundershower was just too big, so she activated plan B to avoid them ending up soaked to the bone.  The little witch and the blonde girl went to the tree nymph and all 3 women slipped out of their immaculately white dresses and gave them to a family of badgers, who tucked them away in a dry place in their underground network of tunnels.  
And then they all waited for the rain to start and the magic to happen.  They all heard the soothing sound of the rain coming closer and closer, until they felt the thick raindrops fall on their naked skin.  The blonde girl was amazed how pleasant this feeling was, with the warm summer rain gently massaging her skin.  The 3 girls spontaneously started a rain dance around the totem pole which had been erected on the trunk of a dead tree.  This tree had been cut down 5 years ago by a wicked logger (see Witchtape #14 by Phil.Ok!) and the beautiful totem pole had been patiently carved out by a family of woodpeckers, in honor of the defunct tree.  The girls also danced around the little oak tree which the little witch had planted as a replacement for this ill-fated tree and which is destined to live for 1000 years and become the future mother tree of the forest.  After that, the 3 women sang a few sweet ancient songs, before wading into the nymph’s pond and floating gently on the water surface, while the thick raindrops gently massaged their faces.  It was so much fun that the little blond witch started to giggle spontaneously.  
And after the rain had stopped near sunset time, the girls got out of the pond, dried their bodies and hair and slipped back into their immaculately white dresses, before wrapping up this beautiful day with a long and tender group hug …

Our next down.cast was mixed by our dutch friend @rozeofc. In the last few months he has been releasing one banger after another and we are very happy that he is now part of the down. family.

His productions are characterized by pushing basslines, perfectly rounded off with unique synth elements that make every sound system glow.

If you listen carefully, you will already find the two original tracks in his set, which he will release on our label at the beginning of July. As always, we hope you enjoy listening.

A Far Blue concept by Ninze & Bonjour Ben - 'Der Traum vom Haus'

This typically bombastic three-tracker of explosive, crowd-moving techno opens with ‘U Said U’. A massively hyped tracks that has been the subject of huge fan-demand since it first featured on Beyer’s Drumcode Radio in January. However, ’Love Siren’ will battle it out for the most attention from punters, packed with all the power and punch required to knock over festival crowds as it systematically builds and drops this is one for the big open air stages. ‘Rumours’ wraps things up in slightly more understated but non-the-less effective fashion with its drawn out, tension building intro mushrooming into a crescendo of sleazy chords and sparking melodies.

Danger Movement - Promomix 2018

Heavy Rotations Vol 1 is Maeve's first long player. Releasing a
compilation has long been an ambition of the label, however time was the
key component in producing a record we could all be proud of. The best
laid plans can often fall by the wayside, having a clear idea of what
you want to achieve with a record like this changes constantly as you
collect the pieces of the puzzle and try fit them together in a way that
makes sense.

As well as the label founders we started by also inviting friends that
had already released on Maeve, to contribute to the compilation. This
was a good starting point as each of those artists are all quite
different from one another so we felt it could produce some interesting
results. There was no brief, just a blank canvas to contribute something
they felt belonged on the label. It was also super important for us to
use this record as a platform for lesser known artists to showcase their
work.

So after 2 years of planning we finally have an 11 track compilation
together which will be delivered as a triple vinyl in early June. It is
a record that developed and changed a lot over that period but now is
something Maeve is very excited to share with the world.

On May 19th we will launch the record at Funkhaus Berlin with a line up
compiled of those who contributed to the compilation.

Charp arrived on Shanghai electronic scene in 2008, and quickly became one of its prominent figures. Then, launched few renowned residencies around town, in Mao Club and Lola Club, which made him share the desk with international artists, besides playing in Shanghai biggest outdoor festival and fashion events. Since 2012 his association with Thoma Cher and the creation of their weekly party "Holly Sh*t" at Lola, brings him to a new step: booking. Beyond that, Charp is half of the Dark Disco duo MOTEL77, which released in 2018 EPs on La Dame Noir Records and Nein Records, more upcoming works to be released this year.  

With some Soul vocals, funky beats and spotting an energetic and melodious way of understanding music, the guest DJ  delivered almost 60 minutes in this 152th edition. Recorded on Ableton in Shangai, the selection is set in order to stir up an audience using the undeniable power of groove, totally loved up and totally infectious. Charp's main inspiration was to share positive vibes, to catch a smile on someone chilling by the pool on a holiday's moment.
