Calliophon is an Oslo based vocal ensemble focussing on early music. The five singers of the ensemble are both soloists and ensemble players, all specialised in the early music field. The ensemble emphasizes rhetorics, stylistic language, text, tempering, improvisation and coloration in its work on beautiful but often less known music . The make up of the ensemble opens up for various approaches to sound and phrasing, and the five distinct voices form a unity while retaining the individuality.  Calliophon is associated with the early music collective L'Etat Libre de Neige (www.neige.no), led by harpsichordist Lars Henrik Johansen.
