We've been a big fan of Croatian producer System Divine for a while now, so it's with great pleasure that we welcome him to Axon Recordings. David, as he's known to his friends, has had a great career so far. The highlight for him being chosen to feature as a remix artist on Moby's 'Destroyed Remixed' album.

The original mix of 'The Non-Comply Dance' is something fresh and a little different, and as such, fits perfectly here at Axon. The track has a nice techno feel, but could easily work as well for tech house DJs. At the forefront, David has created a great organ sound. The sound, to us, is something that you might hear in a set by Laurent Garnier... We love it!

First of the two remixes come from the Colombian duo Cut Knob. They've delivered a great techno-progressive crossover track. The track has a solid percussive groove and deep hypnotic feel.

The second remix comes from progressive maestros Jelly For The Babies & Beat Maniacs. They've worked their magic on the original and have come up with this classy progressive house version.

Oh boy, that came around quick!  One day we’re faxing giant penises to magazines and the next we’ve got kids and are on our 200th single release.  It’s been 22 years since things kicked off with Salt City Orchestra’s The Book and in the intervening years we’ve hopefully carved out our little corner in the pantheon of house music.  We’ve lived by our first “hidden” message on PAP001 “Look Forward Not Back” by keeping on keeping on but this is a chance to buy ourselves a pint.

PAP200 is three tracks from friends new and old that originally came out on a limited edition 12” Record Store Day release.  Crazy P(enis) return to the fold for the first time since 2003 and it’s good to have them back.  Last Knockers has their trademark stripped back electronic funk with Danielle Moore adding the disco fizz. There’s plenty of wonk and roll as it builds over 10 glorious minutes.

When Steve Cobby was asked what Paper meant to him he said “northern musical heritage” and we’ll take that.  He has been knocking it out the park since the early 90s and this is his debut release for the label.  Boule De Suif is a trip through funk and soul that is timeless but of it’s time; it’s what Herbie would sound like if he had grown up in Hull.

Finally Flash Atkins goes down a more conventional route with his trademark layered sound.  What starts as a straight forward deep house track evolves with trippy vocals and a chorus that brings the hairs up on the back of your neck.  Mixmag liked it so much they gave it their Disco Single of the Month.

2015 saw Flash Atkins release his debut album 'The Life and Times' and it’s mix of club smashers and disco nodders found people like FK, Andrew Weatherall, Horse Meat Disco, Ivan Smagghe, Rune Lindbaek and Bill Brewster getting hot under the collar.

Now comes the remix album with a collection of tracks some of which have only been out on vinyl and some not at all. It’s a roll call of who’s doing it right at the moment from the well known to the up and coming but all nail it. Names include The Revenge, The Emperor Machine, Sleazy McQueen, Pete Herbert, Tal M. Klein and Steve Cobby. Plus there's a healthy representation from Norway in the form of Ralph Myerz, B.G.Baarregaard and Mental Overdrive. From the paper stable Leon Sweet, Doc L. Jnr step up and the elusive Jamie L turns out a 12 minute Detroit (by way of Halifax) monster.

So you’ve played the game, drunk the beer, danced to the tunes, read the fanzine, rolled your eyes at the middle aged man in tights and now you’ve got the remix album. Job done.

Kero One -  In All The Wrong Places (2006)

This time around, on the receiving end of our special treatment we find an instrumental ‘harp only’ version of a well known christmas song; the very old-school Le Cantique de Noël. We went to a strange place with this one, fusing drums, choir and SFX together to create a version that perhaps is a bit like what a person in the early 1970′s could imagine christmas music would sound like in the future. The future, like in 2010.

So, we hope you like it, and whatever you do this season, HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM RöYKSOPP!

TINLICKER - REMEMBER THE FUTURE ALBUM RELEASE

Tinlicker, otherwise known as Black Sun Empire’s Micha Heyboer, returns April 22 with his first full-length solo album, Remember The Future.

The album will be released on Zero Three Zero, it’s a huge release, with 22 tracks plus two bonus cuts. It’s My First Time Here, released for free in December 2012, was the world’s first introduction to Micha Heyboer outside of his established DnB outfit, Black Sun Empire. Made up of Heyboer, his brother Milan and high school friend Rene Verdult, BSE are established purveyors of darkstep-fuelled drum n bass with five albums under their belts and a committed worldwide fanbase. Tinlicker’s sound is an exciting departure, but not a shocking one given Micha’s eclectic influences, from Paul Kalkbrenner and Trentemøller to Radiohead and Patrick Watson.

Tinlicker’s eclecticism shines through on Remember The Future. He shows his pop chops on Empty Skies, featuring soulful vocalist Tessa Rose Jackson, and an appreciation for acid techno on tracks like Drive Me Crazy and Let The Windows Open. From poptronica to progressive house and even a nod to 80s synthpop (on We Are Young ft. Morgan Jones) this album is a mixed bag of tricks to say the least, a real portfolio piece that shows his full capabilities as a producer outside of the DnB sphere.  

But it still retains something that is very specifically Tinlicker. Not so much a sound, although the dual threads of progressive and techno are certainly there. More like an ongoing theme, not easily quantifiable but present nonetheless. From the artwork inspired by Ted Hughes’ Iron Man to the child-like wonderment evoked with song titles like Milkshake and Cupcakes, Applejuice and Octopus Tree, the album is strangely reminiscent of Craig Raine’s 1979 poem A Martian Sends A Postcard Home, which describes everyday objects through the eyes of a being seeing them for the first time. The title, Remember The Future, sums it up neatly.
